*there are difficulty settings.
*can be played entirely stealth or balls to the wall action. Actual stealth, not typical ass creed style stealth.
*very similar to horizon zero dawn in how it actually plays.
*many ways to approach each target and mission
*the melee combat is heavily refined.
*the ranged bow looks pretty great in how it handles.
*the setting actualk feels very alive.
*the graphics look amazing.
*it overall looks like the freshest and most interesting the series has ever looked.

I went from meh I'll pass, to a day one purchase after watching the stream. This looks like what the series should have always been. And the ancient Egypt setting is fully realized and looks fun.

I really do need to stress how similar it looked to horizon in it's gameplay. It's like if horizon and ass creed 2 and 4 managed to make a baby, in a good way honestly. The character isn't stuff or limited, the movement, the combat, it looks great. It's made by the black flag team too btw.

Oh and if you're curious if it has any modern day stuff, this is your answer, I'm going to put it in big block spoilers so you can't tell one way or the other what the answer is if you don't want it spoiled:

Yes it does. You play as a researcher in third person who is investigating the main character to try and impress abstergo. You go through ruins and dig sites and dig up artifacts and stuff in between animus segments of his memories trying to find some major piece of Eden.

I'm pretty hyped for this game tbh, everything about it looks stellar and like it'll be a top tier AC game.

But to address the spoilers part, what the fuck even is the modern day story anymore? Is Assassin's Creed III just supposed to be completely ignored or what? I remember playing AC4 but I don't remember anything about the modern day stuff except that it has in that abstergo office and that the side characters from Desmond's group was there, I forget their names. It's such a convoluted mess that I don't even know what's going on anymore. I haven't played Unity or Syndicate though, idk if those even have modern day stuff or what.

Syndicate and unity did not have any modern stuff at all.

At Least In This Game It Seems More Like The Modern Stuff Just Takes Place within the world, not furthering any plot from the series

But yeah, I'm getting it day one. Pretty hyped now.

assassin's creed is a series i really wanted to love, and on paper it sounds like the perfect game for me, but when i played them (i played the first and second games) i just could not get into it. there is so much ubisoft filler crap (follow this guy/collect flags/etc), the modern day tie in stuff was a drag, and when you are actually doing the assassins stuff the stealth was really weak. it was basically "run up to guy, stab him in the face, run away"

pre Caesar would be before the empire, in the days of the republic. I don't even know if they had a presence in egypt then. Rome was very small in the Republic days. I know nothing about the game other than it's set in egypt. but i am just guessing based on you mentioning Romans being in the story, that this is probably not early egypt. Egypt was very old already even in the Roman days. so yea, this is probably like 2 thousand years ago maybe. while I would have preferred like 3 or 4 thousand years ago

That sucks. I know AC3 gets a lot of hate, many people didn't care about Desmond's arch, and the modern day stuff, but I personally really enjoyed 3 and was looking forward to where they'd go after that very expecting ending. I wish they'd panned that out.
I almost wonder if maybe they were originally going to end the franchise right after 3 or something but because the franchise was so huge they didn't want to end it and basically just pretended it never happened.

Yes, But She's Not Abstergo. She's s researcher/archaeologist. Shes trying to impress abstergo by researching these ruins and then going into the animus to find out about something to impress them

Yeah, I went from a meh I'll pass to a I'm buying day one, type game. I had hoped it'd turn out well because it's the black flag team and I loved black flag, but seeing that it has actual stealth instead of ass creed type stealth made me happy. It being like horizon is a good thing.

To address the modern day stuff up through Syndicate:

Juno (the bad First Civilization chick) escaped from the temple at the end of III by entering Abstergo's equipment when they came to find Desmond. From there, she manifest herself in the Abstergo databases.

In Black Flag, she had her husband, Aita, reincarnated in order to manipulate the player (the 1st-person Abstergo employee) into helping her. By Unity, she had basically taken over Abstergo's Helix system and was using it to increase her powers. By playing Unity and Syndicate, you were essentially acting as an in-universe character who was contributing to the Helix and empowering Juno even more.

Syndicate ends with Abstergo obtaining the Shroud of Eden and it's revealed that they're going to use it to bring a Precursor (presumably Juno) back to life.

...It's a bit confusing, but I think I got that right.
