I used to be a huge uncharted fan, but honestly, after replaying them and 4, and playing the last of us, I came to realize that naughty dawg makes great movies, but shitty games.

Their gameplay is honestly terrible. Unrefined, floaty, simplistic. They just make great stories that are well acted, and their games look pretty.

Literally the same jump puzzles. I think there was maybe one that had a different mechanic in it. And either way the tombs took all of two minutes to solve, and there weren't many more than a handful IIRC.

Agreed. I love the Uncharted series, but 4 was far too long and had too much climbing and not enough combat. Which is a shame because the combat environments were the best in the series.

But the scale was a lot bigger and you generally had a few things to figure out in each one. They also looked like actual tombs most of the time.

The 2013 tombs were generally was just one room with something simple.

It also helps that ROTTR actually has a few moments of exploring tombs and environments throughout the main game. It takes like an hour before you even start shooting people. 2013 was a relentless action game in comparison.

I ADORED Rise of Tomb Raider.

I brought back UC4 about halfway through.

Besides the disappointing lack of puzzles, other issues I had:

- The story: Generic as hell. They choose an obviously eastern orthodox church and then spend the entire game "hinting" at this "mysterious religion" with a "prophet" without ever naming a single thing in the religion. It's silly, imagine a whole game about Buddhism and then they never say Buddha once. It makes Lara and her family look like fools.
- The setting: Cool idea to set it in Russia, but the level design feels very, very similar to the first game, just with a Siberian snow theme instead of a Pacific island theme.
- The gunplay: Generic third person shooter gameplay, nothing revolutionary here and the AI just simplified matters.
- The Temple Run sequences: Michael Bay-type garbage where the game automatically paths you through 90% of whatever path or bridge or ice crevice you're on that's collapsing.
- The difficulty: I played on the hardest difficulty in the game. I only died on the Temple Run sequences (because there was always that one time where you had to jump and the game *didn't* guide you to the next platform and you wound up over/undercorrecting your jump), at the final boss (didn't realize you died in one hit if you failed the QTE), and... technically the end of the Baba Yaga DLC I guess but only because the game froze as soon as I landed the killing blow so I had to replay it.

Visually the game looked pretty good. But otherwise it was a pretty generic experience.

Yeah don't get me wrong I still prefer what the older games were doing. The new ones are still pretty dumbed down. But I appreciate they made some strides to making it more Tomb Raidery compared to 2013 which felt like a generic shooter that was copying every single thing that was popular in AAA games at the time.

I liked the characters well enough but it was mostly the gameplay that got me hooked. And I like upgrades and skills. Does it still have that aspect like TR?

I think the platforming is boring but the combat is serviceable enough. My problem with UC4 is all the watching you do during gameplay. I think UC2 and 3 had a good balance of actual gameplay and big dumb scripted set pieces, but UC4 has way too many scripted parts and moments where control is taken away from you in the middle of the action. Sure it looks good and all but as far as gameplay goes, its lame and it makes every encounter play out the same way on multiple playthroughs. Also the pacing was pretty bad in general and the story sucked imo.

Horrible opinion

Uncharted 4 does have some pretty good combat. The games pacing is just out of wack though. Way too many long stretches of braindead climbing so they could get a lot of dialogue in. Lost Legacy had way better pacing.

Nope. Last of us has truly dreadful gameplay, but s fantastic story and characters.

Their main problem is their absolute shit gunplay, which is also apparent in uncharted.

I wouldn't say it's shit (it takes the character being tough to control and/or glitchy and unresponsive to make it shit for me), but it's very basic and about as deep as a small puddle.
