From my youth. Seeing some of these prices for the first editions and stuff. I used to have a bunch that are now worth a decent amount and in good condition.

as someone who buys them almost every day: they probably weren't in as good condition as you think. everyone always tells me they kept their cards nice, and they always come in played.

I still do, and it's such a sweet feeling knowing how valuable my 1st Edition Pokemon cards are.

Maybe one day my children will sell them but I have no need or desire to sell them even with the high price I could get.

Glad I had the good sense back in middle school to never part with ol Charzard and even took him out of the binder, keeping him at home or on my person after the 10th person kept offering 2 or 3 cards for him. Being a 1st Edition was special even back then but now it's real profit I have in card form.

I never played. I just collected. I'd put them in card sleeves, and for the nicer ones in those sealable hard plastic cases.

I had first editions of most of the first holo rare cards released. I never got a 1st edition charizard, but I had 4 regular ones.

I used to mow lawns and do odd jobs around the area even at age 11/12 when pokemon first got big in the states. I'd always go to the local card/board game shop and buy booster packs with my money. My family was broke as shit, so doing that work myself was how I afforded stuff like that, and bought a Gameboy color and consoles and stuff.

I think that's why I've always taken really good care of anything I own or collect.
