The entire project won't need more than 4000 shells assuming I do it like a 64x64 pixel grid

Since rimfire ammo is generally not reloadable, you will probably not find much available for once fired brass. Your best bet is to visit a range and see if they will let you buy it from the stuff they would sell for scrap.

All rimfire is once fired brass... I have yet to meet anyone who reloads rimfire. .410 shells will get to kinda like lite-brite pegs. Or lots of tiny bb's. Not sure what yer going for.
