Showing unconditional love for another living thing is something I can respect.

I have loved all of my pets deeply, but I can't quite imagine I love them as much as I would my own kids, and I know I love my nieces more.

But yeah, I agree it's ridiculous, but I doubt it happens often.

Well, treating them like actual, physical children and giving them their own full room, feeding them human meals, etc. is definitely weird.

But loving them along the same lines as a child, especially in cases where they can't have real children, is perfectly understandable.
