This shocking possibility (god damn I'm still reeling and I haven't even confirmed it) dawned on me after just trying Coke Zero. I was skeptical, but surprisingly, it resembled real Coke enough for me to consider it a reasonable alternative. And it also has zero calories. Yet despite this, Diet Coke, a drink that tastes notably different - and most would argue worse - than regular Coke, is still being produced.
Incredible. Also incredible how Coke Zero manages to get that authentic Coke flavor almost perfectly.

It's still being produced en masse. I guess it's possibly that its consumption can be attributed to fewer people who consume vaster amounts, but in this case, I think even that would qualify as "lots of people."

I had a corn allergy growing up, and my tolerance was such that I could handle Diet Coke but not regular. After a lifetime of diet, regular tastes weird now.

Coke Zero tastes alright when you're drinking it and you think "Hey, this normal Coke!" And then you stop and that horrible, disgusting, filthy after-taste hits your mouth like a nuclear bomb and you feel like throwing up everything that's in your body.
People that like to drink diet soda are like the people that chow down on their birthday cake before blowing out the candles. They are like brainless simpletons.

Tom is in the right here. I've heard a lot of people saying that after drinking Diet Coke for so long (for whatever reason), they're simply not used to regular Coke.

People who have made the switch to Diet soon forget what they're missing from regular. Diet becomes drinkable. A guy I know had made the switch but they accidentally gave him at a restaurant and he couldn't go back to Diet.
That said, Coke Zero and Diet Coke are terrible. That aspartame will kill you.
There was an extensive scientific study that showed that aspartame was fine for you in any reasonable quantities.
But hey, it's not addictive like the far more obviously unhealthy corn syrup is, so by all means believe the propaganda about it that certain elements of the food industry would so like to have you believe!
Anyway, Coke Zero tastes enough like regular Coke for me that I was able to make the switch, and don't regret it: the level of sugar in carbonated drinks is total bull****. I don't like Diet Coke though. So I guess I agree with the original post.

That study was funded by the same eugenicist nutjobs who are seeking out every population control method they possibly can. You can't just read a study, you have to look at who funds it, why, and who seeks to benefit from certain results.

It's not like it's just one study. I find it kinda telling that this is an issue where one side is supported by pretty much the entire medical and scientific community whereas the other side is supported by nutjob conspiracy theorists. Do you also believe vaccines are responsible for autism, Ulti?
Almost all nutritional scares designed are designed to distract you what we know to be bad for you (excess sugar, excess saturated fat, excess sodium) so that you'll go back to eating these highly unhealthy options content that they're safer than some chemical boogeyman. ohnoes phenyalanine it has a long name it must be sccawwwy.

I find it pretty telling from my humble perspective that anything with that ingredient in it has me tasting it and nothing but it as soon as I take a sip, and then I develop a raging headache just moments later that won't go away until I flush that garbage out of my system.
You might say "you're just allergic" and there's obviously not much I can say to that, but honestly, from my perspective anything that completely devours the intended taste in anything it's put in is kind of a big deal. And it tastes horrible.
99.9% of the time I listen to the scientific and medical communities and I'm okay with their opinions but this is that one rule I just have to break. The s*** tastes like liquid death to me.

HFCS is much worse for you

and it's in EVERYTHING
I don't know as though there's a conspiracy behind it as ulti seems to believe, it is cheaper than other sweeteners and it could simply be short sighted greed, but the degree to which HFCS is nearly unavoidable in our society is absurd

That's fine; if you think it tastes like **** then don't drink it. If it gives you headaches (the reason could be a legit allergy or psychological, doesn't really matter) then don't drink it. That's totally your call and nobody should fault you for it.
I only object to spreading lies about the stuff, linking to conspiracy theorist BS when the scientific/medical community clearly thinks otherwise.

In general, I like soda, but I used to drink 4 cans or so a day, and that had to stop. Nowadays I only have the stuff when I go to a restaurant or something.
