Board 8 > SMB3 vs. SMW

I just replayed World this week and I've changed my mind to SMW. I got better at using Cape Mario and Choco Island 2 didn't confuse me this time around. Plus, SMB3 never said I was a super player (!!).

I like both for different reasons. SMW has Yoshi, better gameplay and a better finale. I like SM3 worlds better though (and I think it looks better too), like the powerups more.

Both extremely solid games, easily 9.5/10

World is a lot better IMO. Better levels and Yoshi! Plus it just feels like there's more content. I don't know if that's actually the case or not.

I like SM3 worlds better though (and I think it looks better too), like the powerups more.

Yeah, 3 destroys world in those categories. My least favorite of 3 (Ice World) is still better than my least favorite of World (Choco Island). And the suits are cooler than the different types of Yoshis.

I dunno, SMW is a good mario game and everything, but it requires dedication with it's non-linearity and secrets and nowadays I just kinda play mario games as a quick escape.


SMB3 is just pick up and play goodness. not saying its not lengthy as well, but theres less to worry about >_>

I totally made this topic like two months ago! Giving the nod to World now as I did then, and as I likely always will. Tighter level design of 3 can't surpass the sheer scope of World (plus Yoshi).

Although 64 remains the best Mario title.

SMB3 is one of the best mainline Mario games; SMW is one of the worst. I'd take it over the original NSMB and Sunshine, but that's it.

And I'm not sure what "sheer scope" Mario World has. It doesn't feel bigger than Mario 3 to me. Its worlds are also far less memorable. Forest of Illusion is probably the only one that stands out in a good way (Choco Land being the other one, but it stands out in a bad way).

This, more or less. Although I haven't played Choco Land in a while because my last playthrough of SMW featured me using the Star Road to shortcut over to Bowser.

It was really satisfying regardless though.

SMB3 > SMG2 > SMG > SM64 > SMW

But all of them are 10/10 games to me.
