Curufin > Amrod > Amras

I REALLY wanted to put Curufin last, but Amrod and Amras don't do anything. And apparently Amras was suppose to die MUCH sooner anyway but Christopher Tolkien dun screwed up.

Also, all of them are terrible and deserved all the pain they had to face

This is like the most obvious statement ever

The only reason he's at the top of this list is because of the section where he is captured by Morgoth. Otherwise while he's not as big a douche as say, Celegorm or Curufin, he's still pretty douchey.

Beren, Tuor, Thingol are all better characters. Furthermore to suggest that Maedhros is better than Fingolfin, who is the best character in the book and one of the best in Tolkien's mythology is silly

Feanor and his whole family are pretty lame on average, tbqh.

Compared to the awesome guys around them at least.

Feanor got off too easy IMHO. He goes and leads his people into exile, and then goes and dies practically the moment he steps onto Beleriand. He didn't have to experience the suffering his people had to.

Yeah, stupid Feanor. "I have the opportunity to fix paradise, but I will refuse to do it. Not only that, I'll doom my whole family and most of my people to exile in an attempt to fight a God. I'll also kill the innocent peaceful guys who stand in my way just so I can get their boats. That sounds like a plan. Oh wait I died, cya later ****lords"

Do you think he was being serious when he basically said that to break the Silmarils and release their light would be to break his heart? Or was he being melodramatic

That's kinda the point of the character, yeah. He's a douche and he barely suffers from it (I mean, sure, dying sucks, but...) Dude would have had some serious issues if he had survived much longer what with the whole massacring his own people thing.

Beren, Tuor, Thingol are all better characters. Furthermore to suggest that Maedhros is better than Fingolfin, who is the best character in the book and one of the best in Tolkien's mythology is silly

I'll give you Fingolfin (I mean, I don't personally agree, since I think Fingolfin's too boring good guy for my tastes, but the man is certainly badass in a highly memorable way so I certainly respect the argument). But the others... zuh. Beren, really? The dude is like generic human hero to the max, and barely relevant to the story's overall narrative.

(and I barely remember the other two)

The whole moral dilemma surrounding the consequences of Feanor's oath is what drives the story, which pretty much makes Feanor and Maedhros auto-win the title of book's most interesting characters to me. Maedhros moreso because he has more time to reach an emotion besides rage.

Beren not being important to the overarching plot? The hell. He is the only person who managed to recover a Silmaril and furthermore, due to his union with Luthien, his descendant saves the world. I'd say he's pretty important.

Yeah, that's my bad, for some reason I was thinking the recovered silmaril went straight to the stars instead of staying with Beren/Luthien's family for a generation or two allowing at least one battle to be fought over it. So that arc is a bit more important than I was giving it credit for.

He still doesn't feel like a terribly important character to me. It's a millenium-spanning story and he's only human.
