I bought it recently expecting a nice casual experience on the level of peggle with a few rpg elements for flavor.

What I got was a game that is showing a surprising level of depth, variety, and story of all things.

I started up a wizard character and jumped into things, every battle the A.I. putting up a very decent fight. Every level I earn makes me stronger and I get to the point where I can afford items, and also start gaining mounts and companions. I discovered my citadel and started buying things there, and it seems I can learn enemy spells, craft items, buy skill points, train mounts and all kinds of stuff I very much was not expecting the game to have XD.

Even more awesome was when I realized that the sound effects I was hearing in the battles were the same ones I heard when playing another game: Warlords IV: Heroes of Etheria. Which, as I quickly found out, was made by the same company and the world of both games is the same. Veeery odd to see an old strategy game and new casual game share things in common.

Overall though, I like it. Surprising depth, and addicting gameplay. I can't wait to see some of the crazy end game combo madness that will surely happen!

Mmm...collecting runes...

Definitely a challenge facing something twice your level or with thrice your hp. Nabbed a nifty troll rune and dwarf rune though and crafted a nifty trollkin kris that gives me +12 hp and +3 damage. should make things go a bit quicker now.

Did a quest a while back where I had to escort a princess to be married. I had a choice to go through with it, or not and get 2000 gold and a ring. Considering that a few hundred gold was a pretty big deal at the time, I jumped on the chance and...she ended up joining me as a companion. <3

It's addicting, but stupid. There's just so much randomness in the game that it completely destroy most attempts at strategy. I'm not saying it isn't fun, but it got tiring after a while. The game mechanics are so poorly thought out.

Built a siege tower and captured the city to the west of the starting one. Yay free gold every month. I am currently level 14, and the boss I have to face is level 18. The whole two head thing is kinda cheap, but eh...I could probably win before too long. No penalty for losing makes for much less potential frustration. Luck really does seem to be a fair part of this, but there is a ton of potential strategy with the right setups. Luck certainly felt like it was running the show early on, but now that I have a few dedicated spells for damaging and a few small tactics I can use, strategy is increasingly bearing fruit. Like, I can drain their mana to prevent them from casting their crucial spells, fireball near +5 skulls for nice damage and board shakeups, etc.

I can see where it will eventually get old, but for what it is, it is a blast. I've never been all that thrilled with the puzzle genre; something to play if bored, but otherwise not much going for it other than high scores. This takes that and adds some semblance of a story and a way to add considerable variety outside of the basic mechanics with spells/companions/mounts/equipment/levels.

All in all, a very nice timewasting game indeed...
