Took the placement test the other day, I pretty much got what I was expecting. It's sad that after three years, I barely remember any of the math that I learned save for the bare basics. My scores were as follows:

Reading Comprehension: 76 - That's about right, I'm fairly good at reading, but I get distracted by my own thoughts so very easily that I'll continue reading something without it sinking in, so I have to reread a sentence or paragraph more than once. Other stuff too.

Sentence Skills: 93 - Naturally, if there's one thing I haven't been slacking on since high school, it's sentence skills.

AND FINALLY

MATHEMATICS

ARE YOU READY FOR THIS S***?!

A WHOPPING

32

F*** YEAH!

It's depressing, but the questions were mostly fractions and junk, and dear jesus I don't remember any of that crap. So I got placed in a Pre-Algebra class, which I'll most likely blaze through easily. I just need to be refreshed and it'll probably all come back to me.

tl;dr I'm going to form a Spanish study group, even though I won't be taking Spanish.

Nope, just general studies for now. Don't know what I wanna do with my life.

I'm hoping to just get my first two years done here, and then go to a University after. I already know which one I want to go to. Hopefully I can manage it.

If you want random advice, try an oceanography class. I took it for a lab requirement and it turned out to be far more interesting than I expected.

Considering I love the ocean and would love to study it, I would certainly take said class if they offered it. I would also LOVE to take an Astronomy class, as well as Psychology (but I'm pretty sure that's a prerequisite at some point anyway, so yay).

Generally, both those classes fit some type of transfer requirement in the physical and social sciences.

Definitely use community college as a way to explore what it is that you want to do with your life. Do it at community college, and don't do it while you're at a university. If you need to change your major at a community college, you're just spending some extra time and a relatively small amount of money to do it. If you change your major at a university, you're spending more time and several thousand dollars in new classes you need and old classes you didn't.

If you ever need to ask someone about anything about community college, feel free to IM me.

Yeah, CC is a great way to test things out and get basic classes out of the way. I was dual enrolled my freshman year and paid ~$200 a class while my classmates were spending ~$1000 taking the same class at the university.

I took my placement test two days ago. I got the highest possible reading and writing scores, and kinda ****ed up on the math portion.

I guess a year off between high school and college will do that to you.

Take a class called Effective Study Methods, or similar (it might also be called Succeeding in College, etc.). It's an excellent class to take your first semester. It will tell you the various things you need to know that should help you do well with college, and the other things that go along with it. For me, the class dealt with managing stress, procrastination, health, making connections with students and faculty, dealing with administration, and all kinds of other information. I decided to keep the book as a handy reference for myself in the future, should I ever need it. If you don't have a class like that, you might be able to pick up Becoming a Master Student by Dave Ellis.

not necessarily, as I've never been good with managing my time, and I never studied for anything either. I always just remembered what I learned in class and passed the tests easily, but that was in high school. I don't think college will be quite the same. So I honestly don't really know how to study.

I have no idea what I want to do for my life. I considered Psychology, which I think would be interesting, but I'm not sure I'd want to spend the rest of my life with it, especially since I don't particularly care about people and their problems, I just like to study their behavior and such.

I think I'd like to be a scientist, but I don't know WHAT in the huge world of Science I would want to do, and I don't know if I'd even be smart enough for it.

It's only a waste of time in that it is an elective rather than a requirement. I've met plenty of people who have taken that class who have come from public school, and they felt that it helped them in many ways as well. In fact, I met some people that were already in college for a few years (part-time) that took that class that say that it was worth it. The class is not designed to teach people how to study, but certain techniques to study more efficiently, as well as going beyond that to make plans for inside and outside of school. It covers a lot more than you would think by the name of the class alone.

ShadowHalo17 sounds like the type of student that would benefit in some way from that class, especially considering that he took a break from college. I'm not going to say that he will benefit as much as I did (considering I was homeschooled for 10 years and he only took a 3 year break), but I wouldn't be so quick to call it a waste of time.

ShadowHalo17: Sci... ence?

I jest because you seem earnest, but you really should make a list of all the scientific disciplines and decide the pros and cons of each for yourself. Eventually you'll have whittled it down to a mere few and then you can throw darts at the paper to decide what you'll do for the rest of your life.

I never understood why people got into science

I mean of all the people I know that study or have studied some kind of science (biology, chemistry, math, physics, ..) there are only a handful I can think of that are actually interested in it.

I mean no disrespect though SH17! (hahahahaha)

Seriously, if you're really into science you should go for it but otherwise I don't see why!

Here's a warning about science: Most sciences are heavy on math. In other words, you might be spending more time on math than you would like. If that's okay with you, then by all means, go for it!

Look into which science you want to go into, and take that class. If you like it and you want to put the time into it, then have that as your major. If not, then find something different. Again, community college is relatively cheap, so explore all your options there instead of doing that at a university.

I really enjoyed Physics in high school, I was the best in my class, even better than my best friend the Valedictorian. Like I said in my first post, I'm really good at math when I'm surrounded by it, and I actually found it fun in Advanced Physics class. That was an easy class though, I probably can't comprehend just how complicated that field can really get.

Chemistry is the absolute worst. I failed that s*** hard in high school.

By the way sant, I don't even work at walmart anymore. I finally got out of there, I just had an interview today for Circle K gas station. My gf also left walmart when I did and got a job at a different gas station and says it's a lot better. And I'm only gonna be working weekends since I'll be going to school.
