I rarely remember my dreams, but when I do, they are not too surreal. Weird events happen, but rarely anything that breaks my understanding of basic physics or anything like that. Whenever something breaks the laws of physics, me or someone else in my dream would realize it makes no sense and my dream ends. This especially happens in lucid dreams.

The only time that this did not happen was when I was shot to death and became a ghost. But that said, I keep an open mind about spirits, ghosts and other paranormal stuff. Also, aside from that, I have never been anything but myself in a dream. At best, I have been myself when I was younger, but besides being a different age or dead, I've always been my exact self, often in strange situations but not something completely unrealistic.

My dreams are so boring.

I don't know, my dreams usually make sense while I'm dreaming. Then later on when I try to make sense of it it doesn't really add up and then I forget.

Depends. Occasionally, when my dreams focus on the interactions of people, they tend to have a realistic world. When they're about experiences the world tends to be a fair bit less realistic. Doesn't seem to have a pattern, except that I'd kill to dream more because their quality is incredible.

I was once part of a hypnosis show, and I really got hypnotized. I really went under, right until I was told that I was going to be a dog. It took all of a few seconds after the hypnotist said the trigger word for me to fall out of hypnosis because I quickly realized that I was still a human. I just looked confused and the assistant took me off the stage.

So you might be right!

EDIT:

I don't know, my dreams usually make sense while I'm dreaming. Then later on when I try to make sense of it it doesn't really add up and then I forget.

It's the same thing with my dreams, except it isn't about reality, but just weird situations. I've had several dreams about two of my dogs going missing, but yet, I've never had more than one adult dog at once. Stuff like that.

so yeah, my dreams are mostly geared towards some kind of reality....it just happens to include time travel and super heroes and starships.

Why can't my dreams at leave have some of those things? :(

depends on what you mean by realistic. i've experienced a bajillion situations that you might see in scifi, fantasy, etc. they are not so much surreal as they are having SOME form of basic logic behind them, even if they would be technically impossible.

though, once i stumbled upon an alternate universe that was completely dark and i flipped a switch and started lighting the entire thing up instantly (lol light speed).

so yeah, my dreams are mostly geared towards some kind of reality....it just happens to include time travel and super heroes and starships.

edit: there are also a fair number of crappy normal reality dreams that are rarely anything to write about unless they start shifting into something desirable.

My theory is that it's directly related to the time you spent cultivating your capacity to establish fictions and add depth to imaginary personalities. In other words, do you spend any time writing or thinking about it at all?

This pretty much how it works for me.

Like for example. During my dream last night I was attempting to look into the windows of Osama Bin Ladens secret US HQ and Krabs from Spongebob got in my way.

This all seemed normal while dreaming. Only in hindsight do I realize it makes no sense.

Not really. Although I should admit to dreaming about video games and stuff. Although, I would never be the characters, but I would play as them. Unrealistic things would happen in the game, but then again, it's a game so my mind counts it as realistic as anything else.

Found this rummaging around what few dreams I have bothered to type up. Pretty much par for the course in my dreams:

So in my dream I was sorting through old nes games to play and discovered I had a translated version of advance wars for nes (technically it would have been famicon wars, but whatever). The game started out like a 2d turn based army kind of game, except with a side view and not an overhead one. There were 4 towers across the screen and you bought units by claiming them, or if you had none just kinda using a neutral one temporarily. More towers controlled meant more units though. Anyway, I was playing a two player game, red against blue, but green kinda showed up as well as a white faction. I had a plane unit and got in a position where I could claim a tower, but it would only let me capture a component on the tower. The game was glitched.

Cue a dream shift and a switch to full on 3D. I traveled to the base of the towers and their maintenance people had them shut down, interrupting play. We were in a rocky outcrop kind of area and there was a cave this guy went into on top of some stairs. He was like...the head scientist of the group and was no doubt going in there to get something critical for fixing the towers, leaving his female assistant outside with me. I decided I was a movie adventurer type with a gun and followed him. I climbed the stone stairs and peered into the mouth of the cave, and a truck full of soldiers was starting to head my way. "Nazis!" I shouted, and jumped from the stairs off to the side, instructing everyone in earshot to run.

And so the chase began. I was running through a city type area and passed by a couple gangsters about to start something. They had guns too, but I felt really sorry for them because the nazis would be there any second and those people would surely be dead then. I ran fast and darted into a hotel, one that had some swordsmen guarding it. They didn't want to let me pass unless I had a room, so I spoke with the owner asking how much. He was like "Ten thousand". I was like "Ten thousand what? Dollars or gold?". The owner guy seemed confused for a second but eventually settled on 10000 G. I kinda waved my hand not seeing anything appear, but the owner was satisfied that he had been paid and welcomed my stay and such. I informed him that I had no plans to stay and I was just passing through and only paid because nazis were about to storm the place and make a mess of things.

After the hotel, I fled into a stockroom type building, and started to remember the future events that would happen about a showdown with the nazis and escape from the area. The girl assistant appeared here too and was likewise running. But at her appearance, the place turned into a glass building which made no sense to me. Taken aback , I did the only thing I could think of...I went lucid.

I tried to manipulate a few things, but my lucidity ended up destroying the dream pretty rapidly. Everything started to go dark. Near the end though, I caught sight of a catgirl reading in a library and getting up to hug me and well...a few other things. And then I woke up.

This marks the second dream where I have been chased by nazis, went lucid, and saw a catgirl.

...I would too.

And I can honestly say I've had similar enough dreams.
