Ugh, finally tried online again recently against someone. Didn't lose every time, but I always feel like I'm 100% completely powerless against some of the crap any character can pull.
Like as Johnny Cage, I can find literally no way to approach Reptile or win anything. It's literally impossible to get on ground near him, because of his two dash moves and acid orbs. And all he has to do is spam acid orbs for chip damage or because any time you jump in, you're going to be forced to eat one of two and then an entire combo for it. Cage can't projectile trade, has no teleport to approach with, and basically everything for him is reliant on getting in close for the back x kick or forward circle kick if they're getting up.
Other one was problems with Kitana, because she can literally spam throwing fans to the point you aren't allowed to move or perform any action whatsoever. You can't block or else you take chip damage, and she can inch towards you while throwing nonstop fans that you can't jump over or move through. She gets a free combo at any point from that. And she can instantly jump dash to the other side of the screen, and if you're in the air during it, that charge has priority over absolutely everything.

Right now I mostly use Reptile, Kabal and Johnny Cage. But I need to work on learning complex combos. Skarlett, Kenshi and Rain are all incredibly fun to play as. I'm really not looking forward to Freddy. I know I'm being technical, but I think his inclusion is just stupid given he can't even hurt you unless you're sleeping. He just doesn't fit in MK to me.

Can't the enhanced version of his shadow kick go through all that? I understand where you are coming from them though, Reptile is a tough matchup for Cage.
I dunno, enhanced relies on having meter, which heavily relies on getting the first hit, getting hits, or being beaten. It also only does about 12% and knocks him away a good deal so that it happens again, can't be combo'd out of and all. It's good if someone's nearing the corner or turtling, but not so much if they're capable of aggressively zoning you. Johnny's projectile not being as fast or capable of staggering any and lack of teleport just makes him hideous against a good Reptile.
Seems my best chance against most characters is Smoke, thanks to knowing how to combo the smoke bomb into a juggle and air throw for like 30%.

I tired out Jade and Kitana and I guess I did pretty well with them for being a beginner. I think I did better with Jade, I tried to jump in too much with Kitana when I should have just been using her fans to zone.

I've played Freddy. He's pretty legit, just... not very Freddy Krueger. There are a couple nice touches, like his low projectile, his throw, and I guess his Fatalities.
