Yeah, final cards have been getting stupidly hard in Touhou games lately. Mountain of Faith, for example, is an otherwise pretty straightforward game with a hair-pullingly difficult final card. It's like, ZUN, how about a bit of mercy there?

if anything i'd say they've been getting easier - yeah, mof's is hard, but i can cap this one on lunatic like 50% of the time, and sa's is like 80% (with a lot of practice granted). the others are all much rarer.

I can usually capture Utsuho's final card. I capped Kanako's ONCE, and somehow capped Miko's on like, my second try. As for the other games, I forget Remilia's tbh, Yuyuko's is easy, and unless you count the impossible requests as her "final", so is Kaguya's.

This is all on normal btw, though I have capped Kaguya's on Hard as well.

Ugh...Mamizou's 6th spell escapes me. 1/20 captures is unacceptable...

Well after finding out a route through her 6th card...I found out I REALLY REALLY suck at her seventh...

At least I captured it...though 1/88 is extremely unacceptable for what seems to be simple side dodging.

1/119 is acceptable for her Overdrive though...I know that I suck at dodging bullets from both sides, and her confusing bullets don't help matters...

the 7th card is weird. it took me 1 or 2 tries to capture in spell practice but whenever i got to it in an actual run i completely choked on it. like death -> welp the death didn't clear any bullets better bomb because it would suck if i got hit again -> etc.

Well after like 10 more failures I managed to consecutively capture it, so at least I know I'm getting better. (Or not better and just calmed the hell down.)

Still, its a simple card concept and almost 100 failures for only 3 captures is just not acceptable for me... Its like Hourai Elixer Lunatic all over again.

(I expect it'll take me at least Hourai Elixer tries to capture Seiga's overdrive <_<)

Extra clear!

Almost perfect (not counting Nue since I suck at her non-third spellcards) up until Mamizou's seventh once again, then I just fell apart. Thankfully I only lost 2 lives on that and still had enough to clear the stage.

Probably the most fun I've had in quite a while.

Her 1st and 2nd cards are way harder than anything she had in UFO.

My justifications being on her 1st as soon as I move past a red bullet it likes to gravitate in my direction.

for the first just try not to get close to any of the bullets. it's actually pretty sparse; it's just that the bullets pull random direction changes. so stay away completely and give the bullets more room than you need to.

the second is just about reading the screen high enough so you know in advance whether you need to move. it's pretty hard though.

So...I figured out something when I was learning Youmu on Normal...

If I kill Yoshika on Seiga's last nonspell, Seiga murders you with WAY more knives. Its like Star Sapphire's last 2nd boss spell on B1, only slightly more impossible. since you can't freeze anything.

Neat. Youmu is a neat addition to the game, since her speed/charged shots give her a unique feel that involves a more "up close and personal" playing style. Sort of like the difference between X and Zero.

i am so bad with youmu. she's great for stage 4, though. can kill the second card in like 12 seconds which is awesome for lunatic

So I played through Lunatic, completely getting my ass handed to me and using god knows how many continues just so I can unlock the overdrives and further get my ass handed to me.

I cleared the overdrives of the first 3 stages so far. (Not counting extra's since I already told how that went <_<)

Yuyuko (18) - Not much harder than her Lunatic version, just the bullets coming from the right are a lot more dense.

Kyouko (21) - I dunno. I know some people will think it easier than the Lunatic card, but to me it's harder just because I suck at dodging bullets coming from 4 directions at the same time, nevermind the full rings she fires off to make them.

Yoshika (3) - Um...wow. I expected to completely fail at this because I'm awful on the HARD spellcard. In my own words "So I herd u leik static patterns on top of static patterns, so we gave Yoshika's Overdrive more static patterns."

...I do NOT look forward to Seiga's...Maybe I'll use Youmu, since she can actually temporarily disable Yoshika when the card hits around 1/3rd health remaining.

So um...yeah.

Seiga (142) - This card is exactly as hellish as HGR described it. I ended up using Reimu after all. I didn't see the replay so it took a while to learn how to actually do the card. I think I died more running into a laser like an idiot than the actual homing bubble BS.

nice work. i took way longer than i needed to for that one because i was like 'it can't actually be this hard can it' and spent a lot of time trying to come up with tactics to make it simpler that didn't really work out.

like misdirecting the bubbles above her. yeah great idea there

the only one i think might seriously be easier than the lunatic version is miko's. you can't circle around but it's not nearly dense enough to matter. or i guess yoshika's if it's static (i didn't realize this lol), but i can get the lunatic version consistently anyway

Yeah...Miko's Overdrive is WAYYYYY easier than her Lunatic card.

Just to compare... Lunatic (21)...Overdrive (1). Yeah...above Normal I consider it her hardest card except for maybe her third on Lunatic...

Also got Tojiko's (7) - Not hard but its really annoying having the lanes shift 2-3x faster for no apparantly obvious reason.

Futo's (10) - To be fair the card is really easy, but I've tended to suck at dodging inside of a really confined space.

I believe that's all the overdrives. Now if only I could apply this dodging ability to Lunatic. <_<.

yeah i tried seiga's again and got it in 20 tries. man.

lunatic is just about getting used to everything and not wasting bombs. it seems that you definitely have the 'skill' for it.

So yeah, Miko's 5th card which is a completely trivial joke on anything other than Lunatic is practically my biggest obstacle now.

Except for her 3rd card which seems completely luck based and incredibly dependant on how Miko moves...

yeah seriously. 100% capture rate on hard -> embarrassingly low rate on lunatic. (i think it's up to 25%ish now but i always want to bomb before i screw up)

Scratch that.

Should I just autobomb Yoshika's last spellcard? The chances of actually capturing it seem improbably low

Aww...I hate timing stuff out except for final cards when I get bored.

And exactly as I figured, Youmu makes Seiga's overdrive almost into a joke. She actually is able to temporarily disable Yoshika around 1/2-1/3rd health left. I literally just capped the card in just four tries.

Sort of unrelated, but just wanted to post that I finally completed Mountain of Faith Extra! I'm not exactly amazing at these types of games, so this was a huge accomplishment.

Nah, beat EoSD (and technically PoFV) first. And after doing a bit of research, it turns out that MoF's extra is typically seen as pretty easy compared to the rest in the series, but I'm still pretty happy!

I take it you've completed more Extras than I have, yeah?
