All I keep hearing is how radically different University life is from the rest of your school years. Seeing as how I will be at the second largest school in the country, I guess if this is true, my school will be no exception. What say you board 8?

Hey, I just started college this week too.

Hmm, yeah, it's pretty different, but doesn't mean it's hard to adapt to...

Oh, I am one yet many.

Oh I am not worry about adapting, I am a very social guy and I welcome the change, I just wanted to know if it is as everyone says.

The laid-back nature of it is definitely nice though, that's very true.

I miss college life.

Weekly basketball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, football, and raquetball. Now I barely get to play any sports. Not to mention Halo, NCAA, Mario Kart, and a bunch of other video game and movie nights.

No, this is not ironic. It is coincidental.

Hopefully you'll learn about that in university.

You'll probably learn about it, then. The fact that different words have different definitions is a pretty basic concept.

You guys are getting me pumped lol.

Find groups and clubs that interest you Freshman year. That will help you find people you want to hang out with. From there its just about time management to get the best possible experience.

You have a lot of free time, but try not to goof off too much academically...so many people party too much and screw themselves over. Work hard, play hard.

The first semester was very tough for me to adjust to.

It's tough to actually have complete control over your life with no parental figure around for the first time when you do still have responsibilities such as classes and homework.

Once you figure out how to take control over your life though (or maybe you already are pretty self-sufficient when it comes to responsibility), they're the best years of your life IMO, especially if you live on campus. Enjoy!

If you're able to get by without having a job then it's even better!

I had a 10-hour-per-week work study at the library which was basically the same as not having a job. <_<

Well, work-studies are limited to 10 hours so really it's just the actual job that's the coincidence.

My schedule really varied by semester; a couple times I had a bunch of 1- and 2-hour shifts every week, one time I just had two 5-hour shifts, and usually it was three shifts between 3 and 4 hours.

Not if you work in the dining hall. Then again, that was also the only place where you could get raises and could make a decent amount of money.

On the other hand you actually had to work when you were at work.

Exactly. The library was just minimum wage ($7.10/hour at the time), but it was basically paid study hall combined with occasional re-stocking trips through the shelves.

Basically I brought home $110 every 2 weeks, which was plenty enough to live comfortably on since I had a meal plan in there with my residency costs, and gas was under $1.50/gallon at the time.

College is a lot different and better than previous school, unless you're dumb and can't handle responsibility or change.

The biggest advice I think is to just be spontaneous. Don't make any concrete plans, just be ready to drop whatever you're doing and go on some random adventure with friends, especially if it's at night.

Try to get on your campus' roofs and such also. "No trespassing" is just a suggestion.
