What I mean is after you've already saved the day and possibly the world, the game says "yeah, it's safe for everyone else. You, on the other hand..." and unleashes hell up you, clang! FPS games do it a lot, with the best one I can think of being CoD4, but I can't think of many non-FPS ones that pull it off without simply being a load-bearing-boss scenario, clang! Granted, sometimes an entire planet blows up during those, but can anyone give me some games that do it without being all "thanks for killing that guy, now get out of here before everything explodes," clang?

Wild Arms and Wild Arms Alter Code: F did it. After the Big Bad died, the party was on their way back home when the Dragon came back from the dead and possessed the Big Bad's corpse, and attacked the party. The thing wouldn't survive the trip back home to endanger the world again, it just attacked the party out of spite.
Oh yeah, I totally forgot: Bionic Commando, clang! After wiping out the world's entire population of guys who can parachute indoors and destroying a giant flying laser cannon, your only way out was through a hangar, clang! But you-know-who was there, and it lead to one of the most memorable moments in NES history, clang!
Then of course Super Joe decided to blow the whole place up anyway, clang! I love you, Super Joe, clang!

Just remembered Wild Arms 3 did it as well... but in this case, you don't control the characters as they try to save themselves. No, not escaping from a self-destructing location, but fighting former allies who turned on you.
