What's up with the lyrics to anime theme songs not having anything at all (ever) to do with the show? Dark colossi? Angel hair made of pure light? The water of the cosmos? These things have nothing to do with anything.

Probably because anime songs are made by bands to be catchy and get people to watch the show and not always make topical lyrics

I don't think most OP/ED songs are actually made with the show in mind, the producers of the show are probably just like "I like this song, lets see if we can use that"

They often just take popular singles from bands and make them the OP.

Pretty sure the only active show that makes its own OPs is One Piece.
