Hmm...

I want to debate the second one, but it's kinda a personal thing, hard to justify...

Personally, I'd rather be crafty enough to make something out of nothing, rather than blindly hope that things turn out well, but... yeah. I dunno >_>

A) Help Nina stand up. Be a pillar of strength for her to lean on.

Something in your eyes causes Nina to turn her gaze down.

"I'm sorry..." she says, sniffing a little. "You have enough on your plate already. I shouldn't be whining to you, when you've done enough for me already by getting me a second chance." She wipes her tears with her right hand, and shakes her head. When she looks at you again, you see what looks like a brave attempt at a smile on her face.

"I'm alright now. You don't have to worry about me. I'll act like a big girl and not a whiny baby from now on-" She can't quite finish her sentence, as a pat on her back renders her silent again. You stand up, and Nina rises with you, still leaning on you. You've been where NIna is before. She shouldn't have to repress her thoughts, too afraid to come to you for advice, or to let some of her bottled feelings out. If she has something to say, you'll hear her.

"Thanks." Nina says, her voice very small. She squeezes you tightly for a moment, then steps away from you. "What are we going to do now, though? How are we going to explain all of this? And what about him?" She asks, looking around before settling her gaze on the young man who's curled up against the wall. Before you can answer, you hear a familiar voice call out, outside a hole on the wall to your right:

"HEY! IS ANYBODY ALIVE IN THERE?"

...Fallon? What is he doing here? You never had a chance to contact the Knights. You hear footsteps approach...

49) Fallon is coming. What will you do?
A) Go out to greet him.
B) Try to rouse the young man and see if he is alright.
C) Get out of here. You don't want to be caught in the middle of the scene.
D) Other.

We can be kind without being lawful good.

Hell, I've always thought of Chaotic Good as the kindest alignment, but that's just me.

Also, the only thing worse than a deal with the devil is a deal with an angel. At least with a devil you generally know how he's going to screw you over in the end.

B) Try to rouse the young man. Tell Fallon you're there.

You can't leave William Ray to bleed out and die, if the Battleflower managed to injure him more grievously than you can see at first glance. You call out to Fallon, and go check on his state.

"...Rookie? What are you doing here?" You hear Fallon ask, surprised, after a moment. His steps hasten while you kneel down besides Ray. He appears to be fine...and when you try to move him a bit to see if there are any injuries on his back, he grabs your wrist. His blue eyes are steady, and their gaze is piercing.

"I don't know how you did that..." He whispers, while NIna's back is turned to you, "...But I owe you one. I'll talk to you once I get out of the hospital, we need to go over this." He then resumes his previous knocked-out position, as Fallon steps into the room.

"Rookie! What are you doing here? What the hell happened to this place?!" He yells as he makes his way to you. "He alright?" He asks, looking at Ray. You nod, and stand up. "Good." He grunts. "Doctors are on the way. He'll be fine. Now, you need to explain why-"

Fallon is interrupted by Henrietta and Godric stepping through the hole in the wall. Upon entering, Etta's eyes widen.

"Nina?!" She cries.

"Etta!" Nina replies, and rushes to meet her. The two meet each other in a crushing embrace, as the slightly taller Etta causes Nina to sway back and forth from the strength of her hug.

"How couldn't you tell me you were in a dangerous place like this one? You...you *****! You had me so worried about you! NEVER do this again!" Etta says, her eyes wet.

"I just couldn't reach out...there were so many monsters coming from all sides..." The conversation lowers down to murmurs, as Godric joins you and Fallon.

"He's alright?" He asks, looking down at Ray. Fallon nods, and Godric lets out a sigh of relief. "Thank heavens. As soon as the alarm went off at a school, I feared the worst. This place has been demolished."

50) Godric and Fallon exchange a glance, then look at you. It's obvious they expect you to say something.
A) Explain what happened to them, cutting no details.
B) Explain everything, but omit the visit to Umbraria. Make things up if necessary.
C) Ask what the deal between Nina and Etta is.
D) Ask what's going to happen to all the people who've witnessed this monster invasion.
E) Other.

We can decide what to tell them after we find out exactly how pissed "Etta" will be with us for getting her killed.

I'm hesitant about hiding this as they might know something more about Umbraria that could be important. Not to mention our situation may not be as unique as we think.

B) Explain everything, but omit the visit to Umbraria. Make things up if necessary.

You take a moment to think about what you are about to say. Without any mention of Umbraria, your story has some large holes. Maybe you don't have to lie, though: omission can be as good as a lie, but tends to hold up better under scrutiny. And a few grains of truth, taken out of context, could help solidify the story. Yes, that's the way to go about this: the Knights don't need to know that you and Nina failed, that you died and returned to the material world. If this has made you two into supernatural entities, they might try to destroy you, and the last thing you wish to see is people as resourceful as them come after you. You will research information on anchord, in due time and without any interference before deciding to come out with the truth. Until then, a fabrication will have to suffice.

So you talk, and talk, and talk. You start with your arrival at the school and how you met Nina, proceed to mention the monster invasion, the encounter with the shade, and your brutal battle with the flower. You insist that you were injured and had to retreat to recover, before capturing the flower's attention again. You recount the tale of your battle, and Godric and Fallon listen without saying a word. And when you're done, the two exchange a glance again.

"They had a tougher first day on the job than we did, didn't they?" Fallon asks. Godric nods. "At least we know they're made of sturdier stuff than we thought now. I was worried when we incorporated new Knights as green as they, but if they took on a Jasmine Battery, maybe Mr. L knew what he was doing when he picked them up." He pats you in the back. "Nicely done, rookie. We come out of our first encounter with one of those much worse off than you did. I can rest easier now that I know I've got someone like you to watch my back. Don't you agree, Rick?" He says, looking pleased with you.

Godric doesn't reply immediately. His brow is furrowed, and it looks as though there's something about your tale that has unsettled him. Fallon notices it, and asks: "What's on your mind, bookworm? Considering how badly things could have gone here, we should be popping off the champagne, not looking that blue."

Godric shakes his head. "That shade. Shades are observers, they can't interfere with the real world...but apparently, not that one. It sicced that monster on them, and wrote on the floor with that black goo. Don't you see anything wrong with it?"

Fallon nods, his good humor gone in an instant, his face now grim. "This means we're dealing with a new kind of spook. And a well-connected one, at that. And you think we'll have to dive into the jungle to find answers." Godric doesn't have to answer: his face says it all. The Knight constable takes out a phone. "I'll tell Mr. L the news. He'll make sure this incident is hushed up."

"And I'll get back to HT&L now. The sooner we learn what we need to know about our enemy, the better." He salutes you, and walks out through the hole in the wall. While Fallon walks away, trying to reach the team's benefactor, you realize just how high the stakes have risen in the last hour. You are dead, and indebted to a powerful and mysterious supernatural woman. A spectre that defies known classifications appears to have an interest in you, and commands enough power to smash you to dust. Your school is ruined, and many students ignorant about the supernatural world are likely to have seen something they cannot explain. Your life's been turned upside down, but in spite of knowing how greatly the risk has increased, you only feel motivated. Much like the two Knights you just talked to, you won't back down in spite of facing serious danger: you want the truth, and until you are dust or find your answers, you will not stop looking.

End of Chapter I.

Yeah Kanz, would a "Observe Surroundings" kind of action always be free to us? It really wouldn't get in the way of other actions in the same turn, plus it would gives us more of an idea of what to do with context. Part of the problem with having no context as "our mistake" is simply because we don't exactly always have a full view of possibilities.

Or at least that's how I remember it.

Chapter II: Fool's Journey

A week later.

You knock on the door and, almost immediately, it opens up slightly, revealing William Ray's eyes. He smiles, and fully opens the door. "Come in. We've been waiting for you two." You notice that his right hand is covered up by a glove. Apparently, a strange fluid from the flower imbibed itself in it and combusted while he was bedridden, according to Godric, who was keeping an eye on the hospital at the moment. He survived, but with heavy burns. As Ray steps out of the way, you enter the room, with Nina in tow and Lluvia sneaking through the ventilation shafts. The soft smell of Febreze fills your nostrils. In spite of having been cleaned out and abandoned after the recent mass student desertion, there are enough traces of its previous role to piece together that this room used to be where the janitors kept their cleaning supplies. Now, it's practically empty, with only a few crates left behind to be used as seats.

Inside, there are four people. Besides William sits a man...no, wait, that's a boy, but he must be at least seven feet tall, and he's so muscular he could easily blend in with a gathering of Hell's Angels, his muscles stretching his shirt nearly to its breaking point. He waves a hand the size of your head at you, before combing his short black hair slightly. It's a rather intimidating gesture in spite of being so inoffensive, though the warmth and kindness in his blue eyes defuses much of his scariness.

"Quit flailing around like that, Tom. You're embarrassing us." A petite girl says with a commanding tone, as she leans back on a pile of crates. She wouldn't look out of place in Umbraria's hall, as the combination of chocolate brown cocktail dress and fishnet stockings would easily allow her to blend in at a ballroom. Her clothes match her eyes and hair, which falls down her left side thanks to her elaborate hairdo.

"Don't start, Lena." Tom says, with his booming voice. "You're the one who looks like she's headed for the opera instead of prepared to discuss some serious business, not me."

Lena huffs and stamps down on the floor with her pumps, before making her way over to Tom. With each step she takes, the earth practically quakes, and the sound her shoes make as they slam the floor again and again fills the room. Lifting her head to look at Tom she points at him. If looks could kill, the giant would be sprawled across the floor right now. "Say that again, you big oaf! I caught that insult!"

Behind them, the fourth person occupying the room rolls his eyes. He's a young man with asian features, and the most extravagant style you've ever seen. His hair is red, cherry red, with three large spikes that protrude backwards and complement his ruffled, messy look. Looking at it, you're quire sure that hair is not supposed to work that way...and neither are clothes, for that matter. His pants, shirt, and overcoat all look like they're stitched together, and you can't even begin to fathom how he got into them in the first place. He looks at William, and puts a hand to his head.

"I know, Miz. I know." The latter says, fervently, before raising his hands and speaking more loudly. "Alright everybody, listen up. These are the guys I told you about. These people are Elena Nikolaevich, Tomas Sforza, and Mizuchi Kagemaru, heads of drama, literature, and music club, by the way." He explains, as each of them makes a gesture of recognition upon hearing their own name: Lena makes a splendid curtsey, Tom shakes your hand (and nearly crushes it in the process), and Mizuchi raises a hand. "And I'm William, but everybody calls me Bill. Anyway, I'm sure you two are wondering why we called you here. We just want to know what happened last week. Everything went to hell all of a sudden, then that thing went crazy and started smashing everything up. I tried to draw its attention away while everybody else go out, but you saw how that went." He says, glossing over the beatdown the flower received between your first and second battle with it.

"That thing sent dozens of students to the hospital." Tom says, his voice cold and emotionless. "And then, it vanished without a trace. We can't let that stand. We need to know how it got here, and what it was."

"Tom's right, for a change." Lena says, shooting the Literature Club president a poisonous look, which he stoically ignores. "It wasn't a natural flower, and it injured several of our own. Someone must have dumped it here, and according to Bill, you know more than anybody else. So spill it!"

51) Six pairs of inquiring eyes turn to you, as Nina and Lluvia await your reaction. What will you tell the heads of the clubs?
A) They'll get hurt if they get involved with the supernatural. Refuse to explain what's going on.
B) Tell them. They already know enough that denying your involvement will just make them more determined to find the truth.
C) You're out of your depth here. Phone the Knights and ask them what to do.

These people might know more; and information never hurt anyone. It's their choice what to do with it. If they choose to risk their lives, well, it's better that they know what they're getting into rather than stumbling around blindly.

Plus we need to meet more people so we can figure out whom we need to give The Box to, anyways.

Edit: and now that I think about it, Mizuchi Kagemaru sounds... suspicious. Very suspicious. Demonic first name, surname that sounds more like a given name... We must investigate!

Do you see that happening? Cause in my experience we are more likely to get "sidestep the horizontal slash" than "complete brilliant startegy". The fact that I can't even think of an example of a great strategy in a B8 CYOA battle kind of says a lot.

So we now have met a wannabe JRPG protagonist named "Miz"? I now want nothing more than to smack him and leave.

Really though, that thing took a beating while we were gone. Someone or something fought it pretty effectively and it was probably these guys.

A. "Lets see, there was a ghost thing wandering the halls, and then the giant flower tried to kill us, it KO'd us and when we woke up the school was trashed. Then we find you on the gym floor with that flower thing now looking nearly dead and then it exploded. That's when we ran up to see if you were okay."

Seems like something along those lines would give us an idea of how much they know based on their reaction. And if they know nothing then it might just be enough to get them to stop asking us. Basically it puts the ball in their court.

B

A) They'll get hurt if they get involved with the supernatural. Refuse to explain what's going on.
Except for the fact that some of them have already been hurt, and they were not trying to be involved, but the circumstances caused them to be involved anyway. Even if no explanation is given to them, they may try to investigate anyway. At least if they are told the truth, then any of them who can't fight such enemies might run in the future, and if any of them can fight well enough to be useful, then that will help.

B) Tell them. They already know enough that denying your involvement will just make them more determined to find the truth.
Best choice (imo) and the one I am voting for. Honesty is the best policy, after all. At least this way, if they deliberately try to get involved, then at least they know what is going on and will take the situation seriously. Forewarned is fore-armed, or whatever the saying goes.

C) You're out of your depth here. Phone the Knights and ask them what to do.
Except that would look pretty suspicious...I mean, what is MC supposed to do? Politely excuse himself briefly, get on the phone, ask the Knights what to do/say, and then come back and start explaining like a bad actor reading from a script?? I think that would make them much more suspicious.

I enjoy the assumption that they don't already know what is going on and are a bunch of clueless normal people.

Since we had a tie, I rolled the bones on this choice. End result was...

A) They'll get hurt if they get involved with the supernatural. Refuse to explain what's going on.

You've only been immersed in the supernatural for a few weeks, and you've already paid a very heavy price. You're not going to put other people on the line of fire, even if they're interested in doing so. They don't know what they stand to lose. But you can't just shoot them down, or they'll just keep asking questions until they find the truth or get hurt. You'll be vague about the details and see how much they already know.

"That was Bill alright. He keeps saying he didn't do anything, but that's poppycock. He took on that thing with no help and hung in there until you stepped back on stage. It was magnificent! I wish we could have seen it, but he told us to help herd the other students out." Lena says, nodding as you recount how you were knocked out by the flower and resumed the hunt for it after you woke up, only to find it had already taken a severe beating. Bill looks a little embarrassed.

"It wasn't anything like that...I was just stalling for time. It's easy to look good when you aren't even trying to fight." He explains, and Lena rolls her eyes.

"I don't know why the school's star keeps selling himself so short. If you're prime material, you shouldn't hide it. You should flaunt it!"

"In any case..." Tom says, interrupting Lena, who glares at him again. "That clears things up a little. We know what happened now-"

"No, we don't." Mizuchi says, eyeing you warily. "All he's told us is what they've done, but we still don't know what that thing was or how they attacked it with magical fire and water like Bill said they did."

52) Damn, this Mizuchi guy is more perceptive than he looks. All four club heads look at you, awaiting your response.
A) Evade the question. The truth will do them no good.
B) Give up; Explain everything.

A. Can't be caught out now that we've begun.

I would like to single out Bill later and then we can explain it to him, since he seems to be on a similar level to MC and Nina. We just can't trust four people out of the blue here when we're being interrogated.

So yeah, vote A, and think that we can still gain trust with who we want later, on our terms.

Dang, I was hoping that he didn't see that.

OTOH, we did succeed in finding out that at least the majority of them don't know more then they are letting on. That's very important. Even Mizuchi seems like he probably isn't "in on" this whole magic thing.

I'm tempted to tell them cause I'm not sure they would stop searching if we don't. Maybe if we let them know that there are people who are equipped to handle this and it isn't them they will know to stay out of the way in the future.

I'm really not sure, so I will wait to see what some other people think.

Mizuchi is definitely in on the whole magical thing. His first name is literally a demon's name, and his surname looks fake. Frankly, I get the vibe that he already knows everything, and is seeing whether or not he can trust us. And even if he doesn't, Maniac's right: if we don't tell them, they will try to find out on their own, and that is the quickest way for them to get themselves killed.

I'm going with B, though with the added caveat that Lluvia not immediately reveal herself, and that we don't explain about the knights (or whatever their name is slipped my mind whoops). Keep knights secret just in case Mizuchi is a flat-out evil demon (if he is, he knows we're mages, so no sense keeping that bit a secret), and keep Lluvia secret so she can help us escape in case this turns into BURN THE WITCHES.
