I'd like voice acting for everyone, but dealing with the internet rage might make me regret it

Again, even if they do just make Ocarina of Time but with voice acting, there's still the whole hurdle of Nintendo actually having any idea how to put together a good voice acting cast. Good voice acting is fine. Corny voice acting in a silly game (see: Star Fox 64) is fine. Corny voice acting in a game that's trying to take itself seriously makes me want to bash my head into a wall until I forget I ever heard it (see: most JRPGs). This is why voice acting is a dangerous road to go down, especially for a Japanese company.

Yeah, I agree. I don't think cinematic-focused storytelling does much for Zelda at all. I wouldn't want Zelda to be totally open world, do whatever you want at your own pace, but I think letting you tackle dungeons in your own order (maybe not all of them at once), explore the world without having restricting barriers (there are always to discourage going beyond a certain point without making it absolute), and give you more of a character progression in the style of Metroid. What I really want is a new Zelda that follows the basic design philosophy of Zelda 1 or Metroid Prime, and less of Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess. That might be too much to ask for these days, though! It also probably wouldn't be too popular of an idea with the Zelda fanbase today.

SF64's voice acting while corny was perfect, fitting, and awesome.

It would sure as hell be popular with me.

I would kill for them to slap together a 3rd Quest for Zelda 1.

I don't really have anything to add to this, just that I'm really glad someone is saying stuff that I agree 100% with. Metroid Prime is pretty much the perfect blueprint of the kind of game design philosophy I'd like to see go into a Zelda game.

Current Zelda games cry for voice acting, but the fans say no. I don't care whether or not they god for it myself, but I'd at least want it to be serviceable.

And frankly, it could have a cast full of goddamn superstars and be wonderfully directed, and people would still find a reason to complain.

I think HM nailed it here - if Zelda is to use voice acting, it should absolutely be in the style of ICO or SotC. Hell, if you made her a little more tomboyish and actiony, Yorda would make an excellent blueprint for how to do voiced Zelda, come to think of it.

PS: Link should stay mute though, unless they find an absolutely PERFECT voice.

I'm not sure how I would answer. There was one point where I wished that FFVI could have voice acting, but now that I think about it...nah. Same with CT. In that case, I'd have to say the same for the Zelda series. Besides, I'd want new weapons and magic spells before I'd want a more complex plot (so if a Zelda game gets a plot more complex than what Twilight Princess has, it might be time to start thinking about adding voicework. However, for me the only top tier games in the series are A Link to the Past and The Wind Waker, so my ideal Zelda game would essentially have Wind Waker's art style, no stupid stupid money grinding endgame fetchquest, eight dungeons with none of them feeling too small like the first three dungeons in both A Link to the Past and especially Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker level of plot emphasis...I say no).

If the Zelda series wanted to start emphasizing story or action more, I'd say yes. For the most part I'm thinking of Star Fox 64, StarCraft, and especially Resident Evil 4 (can you imagine any of those three without voice acting?). I'm all ready for "Link the handsome but non-beefy action hero with cool one-liners" (as a matter of fact, Ada Wong reminded me of Sheik rather often, so maybe this could work!).

New idea: A Zelda game, with full-on voice acting, stars Ganondorf and takes place in the seven years where Link was sealed during the events of Ocarina of Time, and is more action-oriented than most games in the series. All hail Ganondorf, our new action hero overlord! Besides, if Samus failed at becoming Nintendo's premier action hero, someone will have to try again, right?

Zelda probably won't benefit much from voice acting. It's story doesn't rely on other characters and dialogue, but rather the world and lore of Hyrule and the player's epic adventure through it.

More or less what I just stated. Heck, I was not even the biggest fan of the "serious, mature plotline" Zelda duo of Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess (oh I can see why people would hold those games in high regard and I will defend them if someone considers them to be trash...but I would not say that they're top tier or anything, although I do prefer both of them to Ocarina of Time).

Give me more weapons/spells (whose idea was it to take magic out of Twilight Princess?), deeper combat, and artistic splendor before we get more plot, production values, and/or full-on voice acting, please. Ironically enough, Skyward Sword seems to address some of what I want!

One thing I would very much like to see is Zelda having a full plot, character development, and giving Link an actual personality. But only if despite all those things, Link is only able to communicate in HIYAAAAAAAAAS. Like there would be a scene where his sister is dying and whispers "Please Link...say my name..." and he screams "HIYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH."

It would be hilarious.

Yes for minor characters, no for Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf.

I would prefer this actually. I'm okay with the hero remaining silent but i really want to be able to hear NPCs talk. I no reason why they can't.

Maybe I'm a minority here -- do Zelda fans around here want more dialogue, more cutscenes, and more character development? To me, I think the series should go in the opposite direction, and focus more on building an interesting world that's worth exploring, give you more freedom to how you approach the game.

Completely agree. Zelda should learn from SotC and (especially) ICO when it comes to good storytelling. Remember, gaming's strength as a medium lies in immersion, something that isn't always benefitted by flashy FMVs or a heap of text boxes.

I don't consider the entirety of the plot happening in the first and last 30 minutes of the game to be good storytelling (at least for SotC, I've never played ICO).
I do agree that a more exploration based Zelda would be fun, though.
