The only thing about SotC I don't get is how people can praise its "minimalist storytelling". LOL are we going to start praising SMB for it's minimalist story now?

Strange I know, but it's true.

No one hated on SotC before because it was relatively obscure, more like a cult hit than anything else. Over the years it's been talked about more and more and everyone noticed it and bam - popularity. Thus cometh thy haters.

For example, in 5 years, people will be hating on Xenoblade. It just works like that.

I played the first 5 or so Colossai and hated it. The controls suck and the atmosphere is bland. Don't tell me that "the controls are supposed to simulate how difficult things would be" because that's stupid. I don't like games with too much realism, that's what having a life is for.

While some people do hate things just for being popular, it's not necessarily the case. Maybe the only people that hunted it down while it was a cult classic were the ones who like that sort of game. Then they go on and on about how awesome it is so their friends (or in this case, fellow B8ers) go grab a copy and play it, but it ends up not being their thing.

There's a lot of subtlety in the controls. Once it "clicks" it's all worth it and you'll literally think you're inside the game.

I haven't played Shadow of the Colossus, but it seems to me that it's the previous generation's FFVII

Which means it so awesome that people think they are cool just because they don't like it.

I think you're overestimating the size of SotC's fanbase by just a little if you're comparing it to FFVII.

I think the PS2 era had more than one or two awesome games for there to be a "FFVII".

GTA:SA, RE4, FFX, etc are all ranked higher than SotC.

The only thing I liked about SotC is that I downloaded it from the internets so I didn't spend a cent


I still want my 4 hours back.

SotC was okay. Cool idea, kind of bad execution, they did a lot better with ICO.

I get the feeling that people who genuinely dislike SotC are people who don't see past the raw gameplay of games, who don't understand what people mean when they say "it's about the experience", which is exactly what SotC is - an experience. Instead, these kinds of people prefer to count headshots in shooters, study build orders in RTS games and crunch numbers in RPGs.

What a sad way to enjoy games IMO.
