ShadowHalo17 posted... People didn't know you could go into the stands for the Ice Titan fight?
I figured that was the only way you could win against him.
I figure people must not because that's the only reason I can think of for people finding him challenging. That or not having the Block ability, for whatever reason.

The Ice Titan is pretty hard IMO. You must be playing on Normal or something.
Ps: Not playing on Critical in any KH game does, in fact, make you chicken wuss.
Also the hardest KH1 boss is Xemnas in Final Mix by far. Final Mix Sephiroth is no slouch either. Sephiroth in western version is a piece of cake once you realize how predictable he is though.
And no, I didn't import Final Mix just for one new boss and a couple new cutscenes and abilities, silly. PS2 emulation has come pretty far by now.
Or KHII for that matter. Because there's no such thing as Final Mix in America.
Wrong aaaaand wrong.
I suppose Critical is called Proud in KH1FM, but it's not the same as the "Expert" in the western version. It's a lot harder.
And I have a physical copy of KH2FM in my shelf.
Critical on Birth by Sleep was fun. Still not difficult if you play like me and overlevel.
But why would you want to do that. Especially if you understand that challenge = fun. Personally I slammed on the "No EXP" ability and beat each story at level 30. It wouldn't have been nearly as fun if I was 10 levels higher.
Also, by overleveling, you never learn how to actually play the game, which is a shame.
Yeah, it took me a long time to realize you could go into the stands facing Ice Titan. I guess it never really occurred to me that it was possible. I half-assumed you were confined to the arena area.

I just realized that my game doesn't exist! Zomg. I've been playing this nonexistant game all the time! Man, I need mental help it seems.
I think it's pretty clear what he means and you are being purposefully obtuse. Considering his response was to "not playing on critical mode makes you a wuss" you really are being quite silly for no reason.
Anyway one of the Ursula fights (can't remember which) and Riku II were tough. I don't have remember having an issue with Sephiroth/Ice Titan.
Oh hey she's at it again. Last time she quit after losing the race against Riku. And it was a terrible loss, Riku was at the finish line before she even got to the star tree.
So she's still on the island right now. Doing stuff. We'll see if she makes it to Darkside II.

Well it makes sense considering who's saying it.

Oh hey she did it! Only three tries. Once she finally listened to me and actually, y'know, started attacking Wakka instead of just standing there trying to swat his balls away.

Guard Armor is easily the hardest battle on Expert when you take Sword/drop Shield. His attacks to 50% of your health and you can only heal with potions

And this was before I had as much knowledge of Final Fantasy characters as I do now, so I wasn't actually sure who it was, I asked my best friend who was there and he said it was Sephiroth, and I was like "he's bad, right" and he said yeah.
So I was like okay bring it o- WHAT THE F*** WAS THAT S***.

Of all the choices you make, picking up the Staff is the only one that has real permanent affect, because you start off with an extra MP, which you can never get otherwise.
Everything else can be substituted with Strength, Defense, and AP Ups.

yeah and the better you got he got new shenanigans that made you go WTF even more
<trains / levels up>
OK LETS DO THIS <does better>
Haha!
Sephiroth: Sinful Harvest...
Me: Sinful whatnow?
(1 HP 1 MP)
WHAT THE FLYING ***!?!?!?!?
but when you are super broken high level + Ultima Blade he is pretty easy and I think Kurt Zisa is harder at that point (due to that shield so you can't just nuke his face)
Phantom was also annoying (when I found out I had to beat him to get the dalmations I was annoyed lmao)

It's not that you're admitting to being terrible, but admitting that you can never grow that amazes me.
She beat Leon, I was proud of her. She took the whole "hit and run" tactic to heart and really pulled through, she had to use two potions, but that's no big deal.

Then real men spend 4 hours trying to beat Guard Armor.
Sephiroth is only hard until you figure out what you're doing.
I died like everyone the first few times, just taking hits and dying.
Once you realize what you're doing, he falls easily enough.
At first, this. Then you play Final Mix and he's no longer predictable. Whoops. In return, you get a cool cutscene and new weapon for beating him, though!
The best thing about KH2 Sephiroth was fighting him for the first time and dieing within a second because you didn't expect to have to Triangle out of an attack right away.

Well if you had Second Chance/Once More you wouldn't have been killed by that Reaction Command attack of his, but either way you were still like "HOLY HELL WHAT." I love blocking that attack though, it looks so cool.
And KH2 Sephiroth isn't too hard, but it was one of the only bosses I've ever actually challenged myself on, I actually fought him at level 47, and I think I was like one attack away from defeating him before I choked and he killed me.

I thought it didn't matter because it registered as multiple attacks, but I haven't played the game since release so I don't really remember.

I get the two mixed up as to what does what, but Second Chance/Once More allows you to keep 1HP either after an attack that would kill you a complete combo that would kill you. Sephiroth's first attack counts as one combo, as does any of his other consecutive sword slashes and such.

Once More blocks it, Second Chance doesn't

But yeah KH2 Sephiroth is all about following a very simple pattern over and over. You can beat him without getting hit easily, there even at lower levels he isn't super difficult, it just takes forever to do all that damage. KH1 Sephiroth was harder (though still just a pattern).
-- _foolmo_ 'You are obviously intelligent and insightful' - Sir Chris about me
I did. Everytime, get wand drop shield. Hell, I did it in FM in Proud/Critical/whatever (with godawful controls), and he's still a joke. Leon was more trouble, and he's easy as well.
So again, why would dropping shield affect the fight THAT much for you?
If you pick sword and drop shield, Guard Armor will kill you in 2 hits and you have no way of defending yourself. Those 3 potions aren't going to last long.
Picking wand might have given you enough DEF to survive 2 hits by that point, and you also have Scan, which is obviously a huge help.
It's actually easier on FM, because you learn more abilities early.
I forgot about this one. Holy hell. I feel like that fight is completely random and you just have to hope for the best. With Guard Armor you at least see the attacks coming.
Also the first visit to Olympus Coliseum if you go there before Deep Jungle. 10 matches and no Cure is just brutal.

Maleficient. Oh God...
Regarding Ice Titan: I don't remember him being difficult as much as tricky. I remember I had to do a lot of blocking of ice shards but that when I had that down it was pretty easy to just avoid his damage.
CalvinbalI posted... I figure people must not because that's the only reason I can think of for people finding him challenging. That or not having the Block ability, for whatever reason.
This. Blocking Ice shards seemed to solve that fight. I was starting to get confused by the Ice Titan infamy in this topic, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees it this way.
Regarding difficult bosses or older difficult games: I still cannot to this day replicate some of my earlier successes. Beating Lion King (SNES) is something I never want to attempt again in my life. I did it once as a CHILD and have tried since to replicate the feat, but I've always come up short. My brain cannot handle this failure or how I was inexplicably better at any game then than I am now. Also beating catwoman in Batman Returns (also SNES). I have beaten her a total of two times ever and on the 2nd occasion I went on to casually walk through the rest of the game.
WiggumFan267 posted... Hardest fight for me in the game was Dragon Maleficent. Everything else was pretty much no problem when you know what to do/have Curaga and Elixers.
