I'm fine with teams being ranked each and every week. I just think pre-season ranks are a joke. You really don't know much about your team or any team until conference play starts anyway. Pre-season polls do give slight advantages to early high-ranked teams that lose, that's really my only problem with it.

I agree completely. Preseason ranks are a joke, because there's no data.

My father is of the opinion that Rankings=Predictions. Ignoring the fact that there are probably 30 games each year where Vegas has a ranked team as an underdog to an unranked or lower-ranked team--and of course, I'm sure you probably get a game every few years where not all of the polls even agree which team is the higher-ranked team. (For example, while both the AP and Coaches Polls had Mizzou ranked higher than ASU this week, ESPN.com's Power Rankings had ASU ranked ahead of Mizzou--and at home, I fully expect that the Sun Devils were favored by Vegas anyway, so...)
