Safe House - 6/10
- Usual action movie plotline, but done well.

Positives:
- Ryan Reynolds was awesome
- Denzel was strong
- Good action scenes
- Easy to follow

Negatives:
- Too easy to follow. Twists were obvious long before they happened
- Some/many plot contrivances
- Bad guys too stupid despite being everywhere, anytime
- Everything outside Denzel/Reynolds was hard to watch
- Bourne camera (shaky, fast cuts, jump cuts, ADD)

Not as bad as the third, and man, the mermaid/religious subplot was horrendous.

I loved Wild at Heart as well, but I still think Blue Velvet is the best Lynch movie.

Chronicle - 4.5/10

I'm sorry to disagree with most of you, but I hated the first hour of the movie. The three main characters are downright idiots, as people around them (like the girl obsessed with her blog). The drama of Andrew is just so over the top that I couldn't buy it, it was a lot like Precious in that sense.

The last 20 minutes or so are the spine of the movie, and I could see a really good short movie with that material, adding the scene in which they enter the hole at the beginning. But the rest is pure filler.

As for ranking Lynch flicks, that's tough. For me it's Lost Highway > Blue Velvet > Wild at Heart > Mulholland Dr. as the top four.

I must be the only person who enjoyed more Inland Empire than Mulholland Drive. I really need to watch Eraserhead, Lost Highway and The Straight Story.

Million Dollar Baby - 8.4

I was completely taken by surprise with the direction this movie took deep into the movie.

I realized that I haven't seen many of the movies who were in the same Oscar categories that this movie won in, but it wouldn't surprise me if I ended up agreeing with all four of their wins

Freeman winning seemed kinda like a lifetime achievement Oscar. I recall there being some better choices. Great movie though.

Not quite as good as I remember. Mr. might be just ahead of it now. But damn, that scene with the parents at the end gives me chills every time. One of the best scenes in any movie.

Akira - 5.0

I don't know exactly what I watched, but it was about 30-40 minutes too long and I was not a fan of the way they handled the sci-fi aspect of it.

It was an interesting movie at the start, but it only held my interest at certain points as it went on.

John Carter - 8.9 to 9.9/10

Point discrepancy lies only for my enjoyment of the movie because I was in a theater all by myself allowing myself to truly have fun with it and not stay quiet or hold back with other people around.

+ Hilarious. I bust out laughing at least five times during the movie. And when I mean bust out, I'm talking full-on five-second-plus guffaws almost to the point of tears. There were snickers and cackles and giggles and chuckles throughout, but this is the first new movie in a long time where the humor hit me hard. Of course, part of that may be due to my own private theater.
+ Surprising guest stars. Is Bryan Cranston in EVERY MOVIE? It seems like he is. And I was not expecting Jimmy McNulty!
+ Tim Riggins.
+ The aliens. So awesome looking.
+ That dog
+ The fight scenes
+ Did I mention the humor? Because I just remembered three more things that were ****ing awesome.
+ Complex plot that you can easily get lost in
+ Hilarious ending! Forgot about that too!

- Though complex in plot, some motivations and line deliveries toward those motivations are dull (lol cave of gold) and the romance plot while great in chemistry between the two leads just follows the obvious rom-com plot points. Not much of a minus though since every romantic plot/subplot does that.
- Over-the-top villains with motivations I didn't understand (bad guys just to be bad guys)
- 3D. It costs too much to go see if you don't know what it's about. And between the title and horrible, horrible marketing, why would you?

John Carter is definitely one of my favorite Disney movies. It may not have power over the animated classics (both Renaissance and Pixar), but live-action it beats out The Muppets and maybe even Remember the Titans. (Okay, it does beat out Remember the Titans, but I don't want to admit it!)

Batman: Under the Red Hood - 7.8/10

Some things they did well (DiMaggio did pretty good for the Joker, fight scenes were great), some things I thought they didn't do so great (such as Jason Todd's Robin costumes which belonged to Grayson and Drake). Of course, I did actually read the comic before hand and was missing my Clayface fight, but whatever.
