I most certainly have not! And I don't even know why. It's one of those non-Square series that I stupidly missed out on when they came out.

It's on the to-do list, alongside expanding my experience with Dragon Quest, Suikoden and various Atlus and Xseed series. But thanks for the reminder. I may go see if the local Gamestops have any left tomorrow morning.

SH1 doesn't need Yuri owning faces because there's more to it than that

besides, the opening scene is the goddamn definition of face owning. also, my favorite RPG intro ever

It's pretty good. I like a certain SH2 scene better in that regard though.

SH1 and SH2 are probably a push for me aside from the battle system. SH2's battle system is basically what decides it for me.

SH1/2 are pretty great.

I think we should just make a list of RPGs for Jeff Zero to try out. Guy needs to take his mind off of Square!

Black Turtle did a pretty good job.

I prefer SH1's skill system, and the more balanced difficulty in SH1 makes battles more enjoyable and interesting. SH2 has more potential depth to it, but none of it necessary, because just straight up attacking will get the job done 90% of the time.

SH2 does have better action scenes, but there are some low profile scenes in SH1 that have really stuck with me since I played it. Stuff that most people probably wouldn't readily recall. Intro is the greatest, though!

Yeah, totally. I haven't played a RPG before or since that has matched the atmosphere of SH1. Amazing setting, too.

I don't think SH1 is all that difficult. I mean, it doesn't take much to be harder than SH2, but still. Not sure SH1's battles being more enjoyable and interesting! Straight up attacking is usually enough for most SH1 battles, too.

I hardly consider "Characters learn new moves at a certain level" a "system" though!

That's my favorite kind of skill learning in RPGs! All goes back to FFIV for me!

I wouldn't call SH1 difficult, necessarily, but it does have some tough fights. You can get pushed down to low health / have team members get KOed much more often than SH2, too. I think it strikes a good balance.

Eh, I like having more control over what my characters learn than just "Okay, here's what your characters get and when."

I rather enjoy the skills-by-level system! I wouldn't want every RPG to be that way as I like some other systems too but when I go back to, say, FFIV, it always feels good.

Depends. I don't have anything against having control, but learning skills with new levels always makes the level up process more enjoyable. Nothing like getting a new skill after a boss fight! SH2's Crests do nothing for me, though. Didn't like that system at all.

Crests are all right.

They do the Fusion system a lot better in SH2 though.

don't wanna get into an in-depth argument in front of someone who hasn't played, nor on my phone, but I like SH1's skills by level thing. it's simple and effective which matches the kind of game it is. SH2 has great stuff that's marred by a crappy ability system.

SH1 battles keep you feeling like you're in danger without overwhelming you. they're grindy, yeah, but you feel like something's at stake. SH2 is just wail away until the thing dies. SH2 certainly has other advantages but I'm not sure battle system is it, despite how completely superior it seems on the surface.

Don't really care about difficulty when it comes to enjoying games, so...
