Beastie Boys - Electrify
Not bad. Not the best Beastie Boys track I've heard either. 6/10

Toro Y Moi - Thanks Vision
One of my favourites on Causers of This. I think I like Underneath The Pine a bit more though. That said, still GREAT. 8.5/10

Bobbie Gentry - Seasons Come, Seasons Go
This was a pretty great song. Loved it. 8/10

William Orbit - Who Owns The Octopus
A bit too MIDI sounding for my tastes. 6/10

Nightwish - Over the Hills and Far Away
Why would you do this to me. 2/10

Incubus - Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)
Incubus isn't really for me. This didn't change my mind but it was not bad. 5.5/10

DAT RANKIN

1. William Orbit - Who Owns The Octopus
So relaxing

2. Freezepop - Doppelganger
The fact that this is a recent song surprised more than how great it ended up being

3. Bobbie Gentry - Seasons Come, Seasons Go
I love me some 60s/70s country-pop

4. Machinedrum - Come1
Reminds me of tunes from racing games that I owned/played from the 90s. They could have done away with most of the "vocals" though

5. Rome - A Legacy of Unrest
Great vocals, but I don't think that anything else about the song stood out enough

6. Kwoon - I Lived on the Moon
Instrumentation definitely makes up for the vocals that were mostly a little too soft for their own good

7. Beastie Boys ~ Electrify
Not among my favorite songs from them, but pretty good nonetheless

8. Vàli - Et Ensomt Minne
Good, but unmemorable

9. Incubus - Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)
Literally have not heard about Incubus since high school. I kind of forgot what they sounded like and this is a decent song at the very least

10. Loreena McKennitt - The Mummer's Dance
I swear this used to be on a movie. It's nice but not something I would want to listen to everyday

11. Toro Y Moi - Thanks Vision
The individual parts were great, but when you mixed them together, the result is a bit disappointing

12. Nightwish - Over the Hills and Far Away
I don't think that the woman's powerful vocals are suited for that style of rock music

so calling room(s) the most fun album of the year and a revitalization of both footwork and jungle had you expecting something slower?

I dunno if I'm just in a generous mood today, but after the stillbirth of last week this is one of the best selections that I remember in any SotW iteration. Nicely done, guys!

1. Rome - A Legacy of Unrest

Top five band of the last decade or so. And they might have better songs than this, but not too many. 9/10

2. Kwoon - I Lived on the Moon

There's absolutely nothing groundbreaking about this but I can't help but love it anyway. It's really easy to slip into insipidness when you play this sort of post-dream chambergaze but this avoided that completely, to the point where I was genuinely sad when it ended. Sold. 8.5/10

3. Machinedrum - Come1

Wasn't expecting something this upbeat, for some reason. Beginning was more annoying than anything else, but it became way more accomplished as it went on. The vocals worked really well too. Album's added to my 2011 wishlist fo sho. 8/10

4. Modern Jazz Quartet - Django

There aren't many things in this world that I like more than vibraphones, but Django Reinhardt is one of them. Beyond the good will fostered by these two things and the excellent main melody, though, there wasn't much here for me. But that goes a long way! 7.5/10

5. Loreena McKennitt - The Mummer's Dance

If Dead Can Dance reunited to exclusively make music for commercials it'd probably sound pretty much like this. Really doubt I could stomach a full album of this stuff, but I enjoyed this! 7/10

6. Freezepop - Doppelganger

Almost fun enough to cover up the fact that this song has already been written a hundred times. Almost. 7/10

7. William Orbit - Who Owns The Octopus

This didn't really go anywhere, but god help me I just can't resist a dub bassline. Even when it means giving a Bartz track a high score. 7/10

8. Beastie Boys ~ Electrify

I don't like the Beasties very much. This didn't change that, by any means, but it was one of the better songs of theirs that I've heard. 6.5/10

9. Toro Y Moi - Thanks Vision

I only had my first experience with CHILLWAVE recently with the new Washed Out album (which I really enjoy), so I can't exactly compare this guy with his contemporaries. That said, this was pretty alright. Kinda all over the place, but I guess that's what happen when you basically invent a sound. 6.5/10

10. Bobbie Gentry - Seasons Come, Seasons Go

The week's stock pleasant-yet-forgettable song. This would have been top half last week but in this far superior one it just finds itself outclassed. 6/10

11. Nightwish - Over the Hills and Far Away

god this music is so silly. in four minute bursts I can't bring myself to outright hate it, but the thought of people sitting down and actively choosing to listen to this just seems utterly ludicrous to me. 3.5/10

12. Incubus - Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)

I really can't get down with this white man funk rock stuff at all. Sorry. 3/10

There is pretty much no content in any of my comments. Didn't dig this week.

1. Beastie Boys - Electrify
Classic Beasties. Not in my top five from Hello Nasty, but it's good.

2. Toro Y Moi - Thanks Vision
I sort of dug this one. Everything seemed to go together really well.

3. Rome - A Legacy of Unrest
This had a nice sound, but wasn't anything outstanding.

4. Machinedrum - Come1
Really liked parts of this one.

5. Freezepop - Doppelganger
Pretty alright.

6. Loreena McKennitt - The Mummer's Dance
Nice voice, and I enjoyed a few of the instruments in there.

7. Vàli - Et Ensomt Minne
Chill. Nice guitar.

8. Kwoon - I Lived on the Moon
Had its moments, but I'm not a big fan.

9. Modern Jazz Quartet - Django
Not my preferred style of jazz. It was okay.

10. Bobbie Gentry - Seasons Come, Seasons Go
Decent classic-sounding easy-listening tune, but nothing memorable.

11. William Orbit - Who Owns The Octopus
Super chill, but got kind of boring.

12. Nightwish - Over the Hills and Far Away
I did not like this at all.

Rome - A Legacy of Unrest
Not quite the best band of the decade as some may claim, but a unique folk band nonetheless. Such a transfixing album, too. A

Beastie Boys - Electrify
The best song from my least favourite good Beastie Boys album. B+

Kwoon - I Lived on the Moon
post-dream chambergaze takes the cake for the most ridiculous song description, so I'll try to offer a competitive comparision: it's sigur ros meets motion sickness of time travel, if jonsi had just listened to the Inception soundtrack. B

Vàli - Et Ensomt Minne
Very relaxing. They're on that compilation you loved from last year, correct? I might have to check that out. This song breezes past and feels much shorter than it actually is. B

Freezepop - Doppelganger
Freezepop make silly synthpop that always hits the right note for me. It's rare to find a great Freezepop song but even rarer to find a bad one; this one's just pretty good. C+

Bobbie Gentry - Seasons Come, Seasons Go
Well this was nice. C

Modern Jazz Quartet - Django
Suree says: "fancy elevator music." I somewhat agree. C

Toro Y Moi - Thanks Vision
Chillwave loses me when the producers/musicians toss in some vocals. I dunno what it is, maybe it's yet another sound for the producer to stretch and wash out and that's too much for me. Bleh. C-

William Orbit - Who Owns The Octopus
This was a bit more progressive than a normal Bartz recommendation but I fail to see the appeal again. It's the SOE of music: there's a lot going on, but does it mean anything? Is it working towards something? Probably not. C-

Incubus - Summer Romance
I'm not an Incubus fan and this did nothing to convince me to change my stance. They're out of their depth on this track. D

Loreena McKennitt - The Mummer's Dance
Suree was taking notes from her textbook about 15 feet away from me. About one minute into this song, she blurts "circuit courts?! Why did my prof assign a f***ing American law textbook?!" That was more enjoyable than this predictably Menjish song. D

Nightwish - Over the Hills and Far Away
Damnit JC. F

chinedrum - Come1
The begining of the song goes on for way too long. The backing beat gets too annoying and too repetitive. Not a fan of the vocals. Almost sounds like the tracks or instruments that are playing are not sycned up correctly. Just a mess.
2.0

Loreena McKennitt - The Mummer's Dance
This is a song I've heard before. I just love the instrumentation in this song. I feel like they could have actually done more with this, but not enough to really detract from the enjoyment of the piece. Vocals are good, and really fit the feel of the piece well.
8.0

Vàli - Et Ensomt Minne
This song was just kind of okay until the violins came in to compliment the guitar. After that the song just slowly got better and better.
8.5

Kwoon - I Lived on the Moon
Right off, not really a fan of the vocal style here. The intro of the song is kind of long and then the second half feels like it runs kind of long too. Outro is neat, but the rest of it could use a lot of work.
3.5

Modern Jazz Quartet - Django
Pretty nifty. I'm not a fan of the messy type jazz where I can't tell what's going on so this is a nic change of pace. Eh, but maybe this one feels a little too simple for me, I could have done for some more insturmentation or whatever here. Also, like all Jazz songs, a little on the long end.
6.0

Freezepop - Doppelganger
This song almost has a 80s vibe to it. You know, it's not the best for the music, and the lyrics are kind of questionable (like a lot of freezepop), and the vocals are okay. There are cool parts to it, but this is a piece where the whole seems greater than the sum.
8.5

Toro Y Moi - Thanks Vision
Not really sure what I listened too. Sounded kidna funky at first, but then it just devolved into a kind of jumbled mess. Wasn't really into it
3.0

Bobbie Gentry - Season Come, Season Go
This is a song I'd probably like a lot more if the vocalist was different, just not a fan of country styled vocals at all. Nothign really special about the song.
4.5
William Orbit - Who Owns The Octopus
Some weird spaceship whatever sounding stuff going on here. Kinda intersting, but just sounds like a very long intro to another song. I can see how this appeals to people, but it's not really my thing.
5.5

Rome - A Legacy of Unrest
Ehhh, okay. Not ground breaking, and the vocals are just so so. Once again, just not feeling this piece.
4.0

Nightwish - Over the Hills and Far Away
This is a song I know very well because my sister would play it on repeat over and over again. The instrmentation here is not that bad, but the vocals are just so...so... something. To say it gets annoying is giving it to much credit
3.0

Incubus - Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)
This is another song I know pretty well, but mostly because I’m a little more familiar with the group this time around. I enjoy bits of funk or whatever mixed into songs on occasion, and the pacing of the track is superb.
8.0

I could probably have finished this a lot earlier but I got bored halfway through this on Saturday. Couple good ones but week was kinda meh to me, even the 7s were just kind of there. Oh well!

Machinedrum - Come1 – My first thought was “sounds like something from Persona 4.” Weird. Anyway, it was pretty cool. 7/10

Loreena McKennitt - The Mummer's Dance – Ohhh, haunting. Liked it. 7/10

Vàli - Et Ensomt Minne – Oh hey, instrumentals that I like just keep coming. 8/10

Kwoon - I Lived on the Moon – Mm. Hm. I dunno. I think I could like these guys but it wasn’t doing it for me right now. Hmmm. 6/10

Beastie Boys ~ Electrify – Bleh, Beastie Boys. My heart is not swayed. 4/10

Modern Jazz Quartet – Django – I just don’t think I’m much of a jazz person. I mean, this wasn’t bad by any means but I just didn’t care for it. 5/10

Freezepop – Doppelganger – I…didn’t even notice when this song finished. But it was decent enough when I was paying attention. <_< 6/10

Toro Y Moi - Thanks Vision – That was pretty cool. I kinda want to check out some other stuff now. But I’m sitting in a food court now so I’ll get on that latter. 8/10

Bobbie Gentry - Seasons Come, Seasons Go – I wish this was longer cause I rather enjoyed listening to this. Very relaxing. 7.5/10

William Orbit - Who Owns The Octopus – It was good but I probably wouldn’t listen to this again. 6/10

Rome - A Legacy of Unrest – This is another band that’s been recommended before right? Meh, I’ve heard of them from somewhere. Anyway, this was pleasant to my ears. Dunno why I haven’t checked them out before. I’ll do that later too. 8.5/10

Nightwish - Over the Hills and Far Away – Everyone hating on JC this week. Let’s see why! Eh, well it was terrible. Reminds me of opera…like opera light or something. I dunno. 5/10

Incubus - Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song) – I’m not too familiar with Incubus but this isn’t really what I was expecting. It was just alright. 6/10

1. Rome - A Legacy of Unrest
2. Toro Y Moi - Thanks Vision
3. Vàli - Et Ensomt Minne
4. Bobbie Gentry - Seasons Come, Seasons Go
5. Machinedrum - Come1
6. Loreena McKennitt - The Mummer's Dance
7. Kwoon - I Lived on the Moon
8. Incubus - Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)
9. Freezepop – Doppelganger
10. William Orbit - Who Owns The Octopus
11. Modern Jazz Quartet – Django
12. Nightwish - Over the Hills and Far Away
13. Beastie Boys ~ Electrify

Good job everybody! Not a single bad song.

Cokes - Freezepop - Doppelganger - Hell yeah! New wave like it sounded when Kim Wilde did it, and that's about as good as it gets.
Lockes - Kwoon - I Lived on the Moon - Amazing music video, and at approximately 1:45 the song takes off in a direction which is equally unexpected and brilliant.
Vince - Rome - A Legacy of Unrest - I read the tags first. Ended up enjoying it far more than I thought I would, could easily have been a Hurts-song.
Carl - Beastie Boys ~ Electrify - I really, really need to listen more to Beastie Boys, especially if this is one of their worse tracks.
Not Dave - Incubus - Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song) - Another song which kept pleasantly surprising me. Groovy!
Giggs - Vàli - Et Ensomt Minne - It's probably very easy for me to embrace this because of its Scandinavian origin, but I can't see that being a bad thing.
JC - Nightwish - Over the Hills and Far Away - Well, you know, I'm a sucker for theatricality. How bad is it if I say that I prefer Nightwish post-Tanja?
Seg - Toro Y Moi - Thanks Vision - I need to listen to this when drunk.
Bartz - William Orbit - Who Owns The Octopus - Soothing, aaaand... that's it.
Icon - Machinedrum - Come1 - That beat is intense, but the song overstays its welcome. Too long!
KCF - Modern Jazz Quartet - Django - Good stuff, but nothing remarkable.
Menji - Loreena McKennitt - The Mummer's Dance - I can see this working on a soundtrack, but world music does nothing for me.

1. Seg - Toro Y Moi - Thanks Vision
I really like this song. It's pretty nice to listen to and was easy to pick as my favorite for this week. 8.9/10

2. Menji - Loreena McKennitt - The Mummer's Dance
I enjoy the vocals alot. If I wasn't already familiar with this song I would have more to say, I guess. As it stands it's a great song. 8.7/10

3. Icon - Machinedrum - Come1
At the start I didn't think I would like it, but it evolved into something very enjoyable. Thank sotw for making me give something like this a chance! 8.5/10

4. Giggs - Vàli - Et Ensomt Minne
This song is chlling. I love the melancholy tone. 8.4/10

5. Carl - Beastie Boys ~ Electrify
I always love me some Beastie Boys, and this is one I haven't heard in a loooong time. Hello Nasty is probably their one album that I often forget exists. 7.9/10

6. Cokes - Freezepop - Doppelganger
Pretty much the only "upbeat" song recommended this week. It's a happy song and makes me happy. 7.6/10

7. Not Dave - Incubus - Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)
In my opinion one of the weakest tracks from that album, although this is probably the most well-known song of the bunch. Still a decent Incubus song, as the weaker old songs still trump most of their newer stuff. 7.4/10

8. Vince - Rome - A Legacy of Unrest
So good. This song epic. 7.3/10

9. Whakko - Bobbie Gentry - Seasons Come, Seasons Go
Didn't think I'd like this one... but I did! 7.1/10

10. Lockes - Kwoon - I Lived on the Moon
This song is a little too quiet for me. I feel like there is nothing going on to keep my attention. It sound nice though. I didn't mind having it on in the back. 6.9/10

11. KCF - Modern Jazz Quartet - Django
I consider myself a fan of jazz, which gives this song its high score. This song in particular was only decent. It didn't interest me much. 6.5/10

12. JC - Nightwish - Over the Hills and Far Away
Eh not the best from Nightwish. I'm not a big fan of Nightwish anyway, and this song is an example of why. 5.6/10

Internet cut out last night right when I was getting started. Glad to see it's back up.

Whakko - Bobbie Gentry - Seasons Come, Seasons Go
Seg - Toro Y Moi - Thanks Visio
Lockes - Kwoon - I Lived on the Moon
Bartz - William Orbit - Who Owns The Octopus
Icon - Machinedrum - Come1
Vince - Rome - A Legacy of Unrest
Giggs - Vàli - Et Ensomt Minne
Cokes - Freezepop - Doppelganger
KCF - Modern Jazz Quartet - Django
JC - Nightwish - Over the Hills and Far Away
Not Dave - Incubus - Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)
Carl - Beastie Boys ~ Electrify

Icon - Machinedrum - Come1
The intro of this is used in some videogame but I can't place it. Great stuff.

Giggs - Vàli - Et Ensomt Minne
Soothing and good but I wanted a bit more.

Lockes - Kwoon - I Lived on the Moon
Another kinda light song. I dug it.

Carl - Beastie Boys ~ Electrify
Still can't stand these guys at all.

KCF - Modern Jazz Quartet - Django
Long but nice!

Cokes - Freezepop - Doppelganger
Man I haven't heard Freezepop since Guitar Hero II. This was good and I might look into them some.

Seg - Toro Y Moi - Thanks Visio
I feel like I hated these guys when I listened to their album but I really enjoyed this.

Whakko - Bobbie Gentry - Seasons Come, Seasons Go
Love me some female singers!

Vince - Rome - A Legacy of Unrest
No complains, solid song.

Bartz - William Orbit - Who Owns The Octopus
This went from good to great toward the end.

JC - Nightwish - Over the Hills and Far Away
I think Giggs summed this up perfectly. I like the vocals but the rest is too much for me.

Not Dave - Incubus - Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)
Uh, hard to say anything here. It was completely average.

Machinedrum - Come1 - What on earth is this? Are those James Brown "UH"s from Superbad? I am just confounded by this music. 7.5/10
Loreena McKennitt - The Mummer's Dance - I listened to this after taking a nap and after I was done I needed another nap. 5/10
Vàli - Et Ensomt Minne - I listened to this after the nap I took after Menji's song and after I was done I needed another nap. 5/10
Kwoon - I Lived on the Moon - I listened to this after the nap I took after the nap I took after Menji's song and after I was done I was really well rested. 7/10
Beastie Boys - Electrify - Yes. 8.5/10
Modern Jazz Quartet - Django - This felt like it belonged in a good old-fashioned noir. 8/10
Toro Y Moi - Thanks Vision - I had never listened to Toro y Moi before. I don't think I will be doing so again any time soon. 6.5/10
Bobbie Gentry - Seasons Come, Seasons Go - This was pleasant enough. Bonus for being short! 6.75/10
William Orbit - Who Owns the Octopus - Well at least the image was cool. 5.5/10
Rome - A Legacy of Unrest - It's like Morrissey if he were raised in a Soviet Bloc nation. Or something. 6.5/10
Nightwish - Over the Hills and Far Away - This is a joke, right? They're like Dethklok? 2/10

Rome - A Legacy of Unrest
I don't really know what to say about it. It sort of makes my mind draw blanks, but in a really awesome kind of way. Great song. This started out in third but then as it went on more I just started enjoying it more and it climbed to first. So good.

Kwoon - I lived on the Moon
I really liked the song, but it was hard to discern what the singer was saying. It was soft to the point where it sort of blurred and I felt that the instruments sort of drowned out his voice too much for th- Oh my god I just hit the part where it picks up. This is amazing. The voice is still drowned out but by now I'm just considering it an instrument because the song is so good.

Loreena McKennitt - The Mummer's Dance
The first minute before she started singing was amazing and when she started singing it was sooo good. The calm percussion is amazing and her voice is soooo soothing. The chorus was great too.

Vàli - Et Ensomt Minne
Really chill, but I dunno. I don't think the melody was strong enough for me to like it as much as I could have. I also felt that it was a little disjointed at parts because of instruments that sounded similar trying to accomplish different things.

Incubus - Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)
Cool in a weird way. The vocals were good and it just had this feeling of fun throughout the whole thing that I really liked.

Bobbie Gentry - Seasons Come, Seasons Go
I listened to this immediately after spraying Febreeze. This may or may not have given me some bias towards it. I liked the harmonica!

William Orbit - Who Owns the Octopus
This is something I could probably fall asleep to I guess. Relaxing baseline, if that's what it's called, and I won't say that I didn't like the picture of the octopus.

Toro y Moi - Thanks Vision
Ski movie music. The "insert name of sound here" was a little.... disorienting but I was able to get past it. Weird. I liked it but I feel that if I listened to it a lot I would get a migraine.

Freezepop - Doppelganger
This song felt sort of generic and a little too bubbly for my taste. It's not bad, per se, but just not good. I also thought it was like 25 years old and when I saw [New 2010] I was like "what"

Modern Jazz Quartet - Django
I may or may not have forgotten I was listening to this song.

Beastie Boys - Electrify
I hate the Beastie Boys. Yeap. That's about it. There is a subtitle saying "Never a bad time for a Beastie Boys track." This is a lie and I am considering legal action.

Machinedrum - Cone1
Icon you're one of those people that can find discernable music in Crazy Bus. I have reason to believe that skill transcended into your nomination this week. Damnit Icon. F.

In Icon's defense, Crazy Bus is still a better song than Over the Hills and Far Away.

Icon - Machinedrum - Come1
Really dragged on, and I can see why, but I still think this song was too long. Not bad, though. 6.5/10

Menji - Loreena McKennitt - The Mummer's Dance
I love celtic music, and this is a pretty cool celtic song. 7/10

Giggs - Vàli - Et Ensomt Minne
A typical dark and depressing neofolk rec from giggs. I liked it quite a bit. 7.5/10

Carl - Beastie Boys - Electrify
This is a pretty good Beastie Boys track. I like this brand of hip hop. 7/10

KCF - Modern Jazz Quartet - Django
Pretty smooth, I enjoyed it. Could be really great in the right setting. 7.5/10

Cokes - Freezepop - Doppelganger
Sounds like 80s party music. I will probably listen to this again. 7/10

Seg - Toro Y Moi - Thanks Vision
This song was so annoying and a chore to finish. It kind of made me tired, but there were some cool sounds in there. 5/10

Whakko - Bobbie Gentry - Seasons Come, Seasons Go
Hell yeah. Sweet ass folk song. I've never listened to Bobbie Gentry, but I definitely will now. 9/10

Bartz - William Orbit - Who Owns The Octopus
Excellent! I'm going to give this album a listen. Definitely my kind of ambiance. Very Yoshimi sounding. 9/10

Vince - Rome - A Legacy of Unrest
Probably not my favorite on the album, but still pretty good. 8.5/10

JC - Nightwish - Over the Hills and Far Away
Haha. I like some power metal, but not usually symphonic power metal. Pretty corny stuff. I do get some enjoyment out of it, though. 6/10

Not Dave - Incubus - Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)
I've always liked Incubus. I like this song, too. It has everything. 8/10

Machinedrum - Come1 - I want to say I like this as a step in the artsy direction for dubstep but there is a song titled "Now U Know Tha Deal 4 Real" on the sidebar. Come1 sets a dramatic pace and shows up with lush prouduction, angelic vocal abuse, bass...stuff. It might even be a minute too long but it never grates. 7/10

Rome - A Legacy Of Unrest - I listened to this at the grand canyon! I love the heavy drums, the whole "you try to blind me" bit in the second half is musically enthralling though I have no clue what the lyrics are. The whole family's a fan. A conglomerate. 9/10

Bobby Gentry - Seasons Come, Seasons Go - She didn't sound that special. I'd probably be more interested if there was a turn for the dramatic somewhere but the music and even lyrics convey a **** happens attitude towards late sixties unshaven sensual melodramatic romanticism over an anticlimactic sub-three minute pop fossil. 5/10

Kwoon - I Lived On The Moon - If you close your eyes this sounds exactly like Sigur Ros. But I would not know, seeing as how I kept my eyes open so as to constantly know that it wasn't. This was sufficiently pretty, almost on the simple side but I couldn't complain. Worst band name award, 6/10 song

Nightwish - Over The Hills And Far Away - I gave it a shot man but this **** is corny. Real life Skwisgaar on guitar? Gratuitous key change 90% of the way through the song? There's a warlock watching.them WHAT THE **** 2/10 two points for having a verse and a chorus

Incubus - Summer Romance - I do enjoy Incubus on the regular. Brandon Boyd's vocal talent is underrated and the songwriting is always intelligent. I would never consider this for an Incubus top five so I think its worth an 8/10.

Loreena Mckennitt - The Mummer's Dance - This was nice and relaxing but not really my thing. The violin in the background was my favorite part, overall it was probably just too long without much build or a change of pace. Nothing sounds bad though. 6.5/10

Beastie Boys - Electrify - I love the drunk swing of the horns, that fat brass monkey, that funky monkey. The brooding outro seals the deal on a solid 8/10

Modern Jazz Quartet - Django - Oh I'm a sucker for jazz guitar/piano. The transition from the first minute's extended chord churning at 1:50-2:00 into a bluesier riff for only twenty seconds is pretty clever, not to mention the downturn into descending thirds that follows. The pianist almost does it again at the five minute mark but he just teases it, what a cheapskate! I could probably glean a lot from this if I spent time with it, so I'm gonna pre-empt the 10/10 here. It was subtle but all over the place, and I doubt there's a more musically efficient way to cram as much into seven minutes.

William Orbit - Who Owns The Octopus? - The first half bored me both times I listened to this, the second half perked me back up. I like Orbit's sound but I feel like he plays it too vanilla, this song in particular seems to avoid conflict in any sense and that restricts it from a next level of greatness I think. 7/10

Freezepop - Doppelganger - I just lit a stogie and paced around my room in boxers listening to this, it was the second most homosexual experience of my life. At every turned I questioned what I was doing. More like Bubblegumpop/10, But seriously I don't hate this I just have no reason to connect with this emotionally. 4/10

Vali - Et Ensomt Minne - Pretty and depressing at first, they
start getting smart with harmonics before the two minute mark and the vibe
goes through some dramatic developments with that in tow, only to wind up at the start, two chords exchanging questions unanswered like that scene in "Dude, Where's My Car?". 7/10
