Pretty cool. It's not a planet thought to be capable of harboring life, but the idea of 2 suns is a neat thing.

the idea of two suns is a galactically common thing too. iirc a majority of star systems are binary in nature

The first one with a planet spotted, yes, but not the first one found in general.

Binary stars are common, but when I said "the idea of two suns" I was referring to standing on a planet and seeing 2 suns.

not even the first binary found with planets

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_star#Planets

edit: what this discovery seems to be the first of is of a planet literally orbiting around both the stars and not doing a freaky S orbit.

The two stars kind of circle each other. They orbit around a point in between them. The planet goes around this.

Like that would stop George Lucas from taking the credit!

Fair point. He'd claim ILM pioneered it somehow.

given the commonality of binary systems, it is only natural that we would find planets, and there is some evidence that they might even prove better for habitable zones.

it is amazing we are developing better technology to detect smaller and more varied types of planets though. i mean, just look at the explosion of discovered planets in the last decade. it is only a matter of time before something truly groundbreaking is discovered.

We all understand that it should be a common thing Omega.

And yes, our exoplanet techniques are getting pretty great now.
