And if so, do you recommend playing them or no? I liked the first one.

Played both right here. Liked both of them, AI 2 is the prequel to the 1st, while the 3rd one is a different story/universe most likely. Also, AI 3 is like a prototype for Mana Khemia, if you've played that before.

Since you liked the first one, give them a shot.

AI2 is my favorite of the Atelier Iris Trio, though I think AI3 suffers from being close to Mana Khemia but not quite more than the others since i played Mana Khemia first.

Mana Khemia is Gust's next try at a more general JRPG series while still having focus in Alchemy. Mana Khemia and it's sequel is on the PS2 as well, while the first MK has a PSP port. I've heard the port has problems though.

Mana Khemia is an awesome duo of games by the Atelier Iris people, and it is essentially an Alchemy School RPG, featuring some of the best characters theyve come up with(moreso the first one in this aspect though) and the most in depth character/alchemy systems/gathering systems. It basically combines most of the good things from the early Atelier games in the style of Rurona and the best aspects of the Atelier Iris series. The school sim aspect is somewhat Persona-esque but they arent REALLY comparable because time works differently in Mana Khemia and has more focus on the actual school aspects.

The second one has the best combat of any JRPG Ive played, and the first game is only a touch behind it. You owe yourself to check out at least the first one.

Game Mechanics wise? Better than the Atelier Iris series I'd say.

The Port has horrificly bad load times. This can be fought if you buy the digital version AND do the data install and even then it still suffers at times.

It actually does have a few small enhancements to it though! PS2 is the far better play experience though.

Mana Khemia is a top 5 RPG on the PS2. I haven't played the 2nd one. I'm hearing varied opinions on that one tho.

It has the official art integrated into the game, some of the abilities got touched up, and there are a couple of added Vignette scenes.

Also there is the ability to play with a friend somehow, but I never figured it out.

I've meant to give them a try sometime. In fact when I went to Gamestop's PS2 sale, I kept an eye out for them, but no luck.
