Can someone explain to me how Spain regained #1 in the world rankings over the Netherlands when they struggled to beat Chile 3 - 2, and won 6 - 0 over Lichtenstein while the Netherlands won 11 - 0 and 2 - 0 respectively over their opponents (and somehow lost points for this.)

Some_Character posted... Also, the Netherlands became first after the match that was supposed to happen against England got canceled. There was a bit of luck involved.
Dunno about that being luck considering the Netherlands would crush England.

ExThaNemesis posted... I think it might have to do with one of their opponents being San Marino and that Spain get the respect warranted with being the World Champions.
Spain shouldn't even be world champions...Robben is to blame for that though. Sneijder with two perfect through balls in regular time and one of which was a clear red card to Puyol and should have been a penalty.

And if you can't see that, you're obviously biased, I mean come on. Netherlands should get #1 ranking because they beat their opponents in friendlies and Spain lost.

They're friendlies. Who cares?
The Netherlands should have won the World Cup and were robbed by bad reffing, and bad finishing on one balding star's part. Sneijder gave Robben two chances to put the game away and both times he failed, though one wasn't his fault and should have been a red.
The Netherlands is the best team in the world. They would be even more dangerous if they had a decent striker.

Bad reffing: De Jong stayed on the field after the Alonso foul. That's bad reffing, absolutely correct.
Bad finishing: part of the game my man, sucks to be a Dutchman but ah well.
Spain are the best team in the world, the Dutch defence is a tad too mediocre and van Persie doesn't seem to play well for Holland for some reason, and well LOL Huntelaar.

Huntelaar is at least surgical for the Netherlands. Van Persie is an overrated bum. Give me Wijnaldum plz

Iniesta's goal wasn't offside and Spain are better than Holland. I told you this before even the semifinal and you argued with me. You were wrong then and you're wrong now.

Nothing in this post is true. What are you talking about?
Anyway, Iniesta's goal was the result of an off-side play, which had followed multiple missed calls by the refs that put the Netherlands at a disadvantage (not to mention all the other stuff.) The Netherlands were better in the tournament, and on the day. That World Cup could not have been more gifted.
Although there's really no point in arguing this with you guys. You're bitter because none of your teams even made it to the final.

Some_Character posted... I'm afraid that people are imagining that Curt is a good example of what fans of the Netherlands are like. Even if he isn't Dutch.
I find it weird that people keep referring to me as Curt.
But, with that in mind, what makes me a bad Netherlands fan? I guarantee I am more passionate about my heritage and the Netherlands football team than you are. I guess good fans are just stuck up ****s who don't actually watch the games, try to be as nice as possible and agree with everyone saying another team is better than theirs when that is far from clear?
I bow to you, oh great Dutchman. Please, show me the way.

Can't wait for the next round of excuses when England (as always) fails to make it past the quarterfinals.
...or when Germany doesn't make it to the finals.
...or when France is eliminated in the group stage.
...or when Italy is embarrassed on the field....
I think I've covered all of the good European teams (England isn't included in that, they're really not as good as they're always hyped to be.)
What I do know is that the Netherlands should be the #1 ranked team in the world, had easily the toughest road to the Finals, and should have won the world cup. On top of this the Netherlands is going to be an incredibly strong team for the forseeable future which is more than I can say for teams like France, England, Spain and Italy.

We're pretty terrible fans ourselves, really. The entire run we kept saying "well, they won but they didn't really show what they were made of". Then we lost and we went on with our daily lives.

I like to think that I'm a pretty great football fan. I'm always respectful to other people and I'm very passionate about the teams that I follow. I don't think that makes me a bad example of any kind of fan.

I like your enthusiasm Curt but sometimes I feel it's a bit misplaced.
Like right here. Literally no one cares what the FIFA world rankings are. None of us care if NED are ranked number one or not because it doesn't matter. All that matters is what happens in the next big tourney, so if they're really as good as you believe they will prove it in Poland.
