From: Chrono1219 | #050 I dont get why people are so hung up over the staff. You dont have to use the same staff. CC was completely different than CT. Yeah CC was terrible as a sequel but at least it's an example of square trying to do something.
Man, I'm sorry but sometimes you really do need the staff. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are a few exceptions out there. I'm sure there are some people out there that'd do it right, which yes, technically means I rescind my first sentence. But it'd be hard as f*** to find 'em and then they'd also have to be interested.
Good example of why I believe Square's properties need to be handled by certain people -- I haven't played a game from them since 2002 that I've loved. Also, that's the era where a lot of the good staff started to uhh, leave.

Chrono1219 posted... To be fair, who says they have to make a new Chrono by themselves? A lot of smaller companies would probably be very interested in it.
Yeah, but if they got somebody else to do it, the backlash they'd get if it didn't hit expectations would be absolutely terrible. I think they just don't want to chance it.

Dem's fightin' words! *Shakes fist*
Mostly because, if you're going to do a Chrono Break, it'd only make sense to at least consult the original staff and the CC staff. And Yasunori Mitsuda is a must. If you think he isn't necessary there's no point in discussing this.

I need to play it. >_>;
Do it ipso facto. It's really, really good. It looks horrible at first ("THE COSTUMES ARE UNREALISTIC!" (they're not, people seriously dress that way in Shibuya); "THIS GIRL SUCKS" (gets better); "BAH GAWD WHAT IS IT WITH THESE SUCKY VILLAINS!" (they get scarier)), but it's totally amazing and rewards you more and more as you go deeper into its story. And one thing nobody can deny about it is that it nails the setting. When you hear the characters speak casually and use slang, it sounds exactly like a real conversation, freaky supernatural stuff aside. There's no "this is totally radical, dudeman!" stuff in TWEWY, it's all on point.

This is fair. The game would probably never hit expectations though. HOWEVER based on SE's current track record, how much worse can another company be?
TWEWY is one of those games that's fun to play both for gameplay and for story. I know there are a lot of split opinions on both of those, but I liked the cast as a whole. It does a good job of maintaining a solid gameplay to story ratio, too.
And at the very least, you won't be bored playing it.

Agreed. The game system is terrific. I highly recommend setting your ally to manual though, it really didn't click for me until I manned up and started fighting on both screens.

i swear b8, sometimes i do not understand you
God Hand got a 3. Nier was super panned. Sometimes you shouldn't trust reviewers, this is one such case.

From: ZFS | #059 TWEWY has a nice battle system, but its characters aren't the best. Still, I liked the setting and idea behind the story. Pretty unique.
Yeah, at the very least, Square put a good idea on the table. Hopefully, it'll get some more refining if we do get a sequel.

Oh yeah, that's what I meant. If anything, the critical reception underrated the game. It really ought to be a top 20 lock on any respecting gamer's best-games list.

Selective reading is cool, or so I've heard.

I'm gonna assume you misused the phrase "this is one such case" because your post definitely says right now that TWEWY is a case where you should not trust the reviewers and then posted a bunch of high review scores, after saying the game was terrific in an earlier post.

TWEWY happened after the twilight princess 8.8 blowup and the kingdom hearts 2 outrage, by this time professional reviewers knew that you literally can't give a nintendo or a square game anything less than a 9.5 or it could potentially cost you your job.
One more thing to note about TWEWY is its huge room for customization. Almost everything can be adjusted to suit your taste. In the end it'll feel like your own unique game and your own experience.

That's why most of its scores are under 9.5, huh.
