"Kelly Thomas appeared to be acting in self-defense, in pain, in a state of panic. His numerous pleas of 'I'm sorry,' 'I can't breathe,' 'help,' 'Dad,' all to no avail," Rackauckas said. "Screams, loud screams, didn't help."
...Cicinelli allegedly Tased Thomas four times, kneed him in the head twice and hit him eight times with the Taser, Rackauckas said.

My Japanese alter-ego. Hey all this is Bartz btw.
it's illegal to film police btw so if anyone got it on tape it's not admissable evidence LOL
Not sure about American law, but if I recall correctly illegally seized evidence by civilians is still admissible in court. Not sure if the same ruling applies here, but the logic behind it was that you would be punished for breaking laws in case of say, illegally searching someone's house(as a civilian) but your evidence would be admissible under certain circumstances.
...There's a chance I'm mixing up rulings in my head so feel free to ignore me.

That would have to be a state law, and maybe that's how it is in some states, but I'm pretty sure it's not like that in most states. There was just a thing recently in... Buffalo? I think, about it being legal to film police.
And yeah, if a civilian breaks the law and evidence comes from that, it's not inadmissible, unless they were acting as an agent of the police.
If it's illegal to film the police, then how does the TV show "Cops" exist?

Cats land on their feet. Toast lands peanut butter side down. A cat with toast strapped to its back will hover above the ground in a state of quantum indecision
First Circuit Appeals Court actually just ruled a few weeks ago that filming cops in public, even while engaged in their duties, is protected by the first amendment
It's not that it's concealed or not, it's about consent. It is illegal to film anyone without their consent. Which of course includes concealed cameras.

No, it's illegal if they can see it. Cops walk over and say "STOP FILMING" and take the camera so they can continue their nefarious deeds. And if someone doesn't stop filming, they are arrested. The only practical use for this law is to stop police departments from being embarrassed that they have so many crooked cops.
