Haha, I actually had access to that cart back in the day (a friend of mine had it). As far as I remember, Somari was basically a dumbed down version of Sonic 1, with the Mario sprite instead of Sonic (but it looked like Sonic otherwise - for instance, when you crouch, it would go into a ball, etc.).

It also added the spindash, which Sonic 1 didn't have!

I remember multiple times playing this where I would fall in a hole that you couldn't get out of that was full of spikes, but every time my rings came out from getting hit one of them would fall back on top of me, making it take forever to actually die.
