Just ran into a guy in 3SOE, and suffered the most embarrassing loss of my life to an Akuma who only shot fireballs. we had an awful connection so I couldn't parry them, and I was playing random and got Urien (I suck suck suck at Urien).
anyway after that he friends me and asks if we can meet up and I can let him win a bunch so he can get his "going streaking" achievement
went from 0 to 7 disconnect percentage in half an hour, I assume he DCed from every match he was going to lose
I've had it where I lost my internet connection once and just lost about 100BP and PP, which I assumed was due to that, but never lost more than what it said I would after a match otherwise.
That 5000 point hump marks such a huge difference in point gains, I feel like everything before it is free points and then you have to work for your points beyond that because it scales them so hard then.

if i can randomly lose points even when i win, i feel like i'm being cheated pretty hard
i mean, they're just points, but it's pretty freaking annoying when you're already dealing with things like the twins and buttsplash hondas and whatnot
I play as Thawk. I try to dp, but there's some move Gen does that'll beat out THawk's stupid dp sometimes and other that trades with stuff.
I also don't know how to punish him, because a lot of simple chains leave him spaced really far out and his weird body shape makes a lot of stuff whiff from distances it norally hits people

Elena I have mixed feelings about because while she's quite wonderful in real life gameplay, she's kinda scummy online and you feel a pang of guilt every time you mixup someone to death and they can't parry or block because of the lag
Ibuki however is a paragon of truth and justice, just as nearly low tier online as offline, and I have never seen a scummy Ibuki in my life
I don't run into Necros online period so I have no thoughts on the matter, other than the assumption that the ones that exist are probably better people than their Dhalsim counterparts
you don't even know what you're talking about. i just got done watching combofiend get bodied by wong last night because of how unreliable that srk is as an anti-air.

She wasn't even a good Phoenix! I was timing her out and she got a few random hits into her hyper. I don't ever want to hear anyone complain about SSF4 ever again.
Well, yeah, it's not the anti-air properties that are the problem! It's the seemingly crazy distance it has on startup. I was getting tagged with it when I was a solid distance away from him. Also pretty much every Oni player will throw one out, successfully, after any previously blocked move. I've learned to just hold block longer to avoid getting hit, and then punish him, but augh what an annoying move. Far worse than the other shotos -- which sums up Oni, as a character, pretty well! Just don't like him at all.
Was reading on the SRK forums that they tested 3S PS3 vs 360 and couldn't find any lag differences. Flies in the face of what a lot of pros are saying, that PS3 feels laggier. No word on how the two of them compare to arcade, probably won't happen since 3S arcade machines aren't exactly plentiful anymore.
3S players are for the most part against rebalancing the game, even though the spread on the character quality is pretty large. that's most obvious at the pro level where you see far too many Chuns, Yuns, Makotos, and Dudleys, but most people at lower levels of play are aware of it too. you just don't see a lot of people who main characters like Ibuki, Elena, Necro, Twelve, Q, Remy and so on because they're just harder to win with.
I think I wouldn't mind seeing what a rebalanced 3S would look like. Get every matchup into the 5-5 or 6-4 area without dramatically altering how the game works. Could release it in a way where both versions are still there so if you prefer the original game you can stay with that, and people who wanna play the rebalanced can play that.
It's actually kind of weird to me that high level players are strongly against rebalance, I would expect it'd open up character options and make for a much more interesting metagame or whatever. I guess the fear is that they'll ruin it by messing with the balance.
The fighting game community seems basically opposite of the RTS community in that regard. RTS players are constantly discussing balance and that balance is constantly being tweaked to make sure the field is level. From what I've read from Sirlin and seen from the 3S community, the attitude there is "you get what you get, don't fix it later." The 3S people even rejected a revision that removed two infinite combos which most people would probably consider degenerate gameplay. It's just a different attitude. I can't imagine SC2 players going "well yeah the Zerg v Terran matchup is broken but **** it, no rebalance please."
Yeah, there were some people even complaining about the AE 2012 patch. Maybe not that it was happening, but that balance patches made people have to relearn matchups, and having a yearly update was too frequent. I think Wazzup is right about it stemming from the arcades; just learning to deal with what you had until the next iteration. In my mind, something like AE -- where you can switch between the two in-game -- would work for 3S. You could offer a balanced version and the original.
also I'm guessing when you have AE selected you can't get the 'complete arcade mode on hardest without continuing difficulty.' Just finished it and didn't get it!
