I don't know anything about the situation, but they said the law was passed in California in 1996 allowing this and just now the federal government is pulling rank on it out of nowhere? Was there any warning?
The federal government overruling the state is one thing but from that article it sounds like.... they just up and decided "yeah we don't like that thing you've been doing for 15 years stop it immediately"

CherryCokes posted... I can't help but wonder why this is going to happen.
Probably tax issues and zoning problems, I doubt they are shutting down all locations, just the ones that have any sort of issue. They probably don't get much slack.

I thought taxes too, but the businesses are by the books, which means they're still paying federal taxes. If the Feds wanted a pot tax they wouldn't be shutting down the ones they are. Zoning might make more sense, but it sounds like they are targeting specific areas and not specific shops.

Sophisticated ignorance, write my curses in cursive
A few years ago they came in and shut down a bunch because they were misreporting taxes. I have a feeling these might not be the most vigilant businessmen ever!

By zones, I meant to reference the part about the feds saying one place was being shut down because it was too close to a school or park or something. I figure it's a crackdown on any shop they can crack down on more than a broad sweep of all the shops. just speculation on my part though
