Big Boss/The Boss should take their match pretty easy; Fox and Yuna who knows.

is this that rival thing

how the hell is Yuna and Seymour a rivalry? Shouldn't it be Yuna and that random summoner who challenges her to SUMMONER BATTLE every once in awhile?

Sorry, but FFX got two bad matchups. Tidus, king of early chokes, can't take the might of Naked Snake, and while I'd be nervous about Fox vs. Yuna in a 1-on-1 character battle, I'd still take Fox there and I think Fox/Wolf will probably get a boost from the whole "rivalry" thing.

well we've got Crono vs Lavos and Terra vs Kefka, so it's obviously not that important to actually be rivals to make the contest!

How the hell is Yuna and Seymour *not* a rivalry? Their entire relationship in the plot is based around their being complete opposites in terms of their view points on how to handle Sin, and did you miss the part where she wants to kill him and get rid of him for good while he's hoping to eventually drag her around to seeing things his way so his plan can work?

Yeah, Yuna/Seymour is a perfect rivalry. <_<

Not every rivalry is a Pokemon "EYE CONTACT WE MUST DUEL" rivalry like Yuna and that random summoner who barely matters, direct opposition and rejection of each others' beliefs is a form of rivalry!

Yes, i suppose i did miss that. I'm pretty sure it was Auron and Tidus that originally championed the other end of the argument and Yuna only reconsidered like 80% into the game. Seymour and Yuna would want nothing more then for each other to see things their way, taking it one step further, Seymour wants to marry Yuna and die with her. (and everyone else). Seymour does not want to beat Yuna, to win at some competition they have ongoing, they have lot of stuff between them but as far as any rivalry goes they're the same old "one wants to destroy the world, the other one wants to save it" deal. Go vote for Crono/Lavos if that's enough to be the greatest rivalry ever for you.

Except Yuna was the one who first took the initiative to figure out that Seymour was evil, remember? And it's the fact that they do see things differently that make them rivals. Yuna believes that Spira has hope for salvation, she believes that there's a chance she can beat Sin for good (that's why she's so upset when she finds out it's not true - she hoped that her sacrifice might be enough, and when she knew it wouldn't be, she felt sacrificing people for temporary peace was unacceptable). Seymour believes that Spira cannot be saved except by killing everyone so they don't have to suffer any more. They have two fundamentally different approaches to the same problem, they are unquestionably rivals.

I say Fox because Nintendrone mentality.

I've been fretting about the other though.... FFX is one of the most widely popular FFs out there.

I got Fox over Yuna and Big Boss over Tidus. The 2nd one might end up screwing me though.

Honestly, I think Tidus/Jecht > Big Boss/The Boss is a more likely outcome than Yuna/"who cares" > Fox/Wolf.

But I don't think either result is likely!

Winner of Tidus/Big Boss, I say. Neither Chris nor Wesker have really shown much contest strength. I think if Tidus and Jecht can get past Big Boss and the Boss, this could finally be the year that Tidus makes it to Round 3.

But I don't think Tidus will be able to get out of the first round. Which will make it 9 contest appearances for the FFX protagonist without a single third-round appearance. His X-stat ratings would suggest that he should be able to make it there with the right seeding--11th in 2002, 13th in 2003, then 40th in 2010 (in a 128-character field) which isn't quite top-four-seed material but would suggest a 5. And his seeding actually does bear out his strength at times--he was a 4-seed in 2010. He just can't catch a break, and always ends up facing a strong opponent in the first two rounds.

Or sometimes just gets upset. Really, the only disappointments are getting knocked out by Weighted Companion Cube in 2008 and Sub-Zero in 2010, and neither of those were weak, per se.
