When I went to Oregon, the first people I met told me to pronounce it "Or-eh-gon," but the next group told me it's "Or-ih-gin." Combined with the amount of mosquitoes I had to deal with, it's in last place forever.

The mosquitoes are a legitimate reason. Those things were everywhere and I didn't have any bug repellent because I hadn't known in advance.

You know, I've never been to Oregon, but I'm fairly certain you could have purchased some at a store.
And you wouldn't have had to pay sales tax.

I did eventually buy some at a store, but until I found the time to do that, the bastards ripped into me for hours. Then again, I'll admit I haven't been to Oregon for nine years, so maybe it's a bit better than I remember.

I'm really at a loss for how nebraska is above oregon. Granted, I've never been to oregon, but it has mountains and an ocean. Nebraska has wheat, corn and soy.

It's neither. It's pronounced "Organ". At least, every one I've met in Oregon pronounces it like that.

What? It's pronounced Or-e-gon. Like it's spelled. Open your ears.
It may be all the years I lived in California after moving there, but I was born in Oregon and I pronounce it Or-eh-gun (that last syllable should be with that weird upside down e, but I don't know how to type it, so that's the closest approximation.)
