Board 8 > I feel bad asking this, but... when does Xenoblade get amazing?

I'm still not very far into it- the novelty of finally having a classic controller has sidetracked me onto replaying Klonoa and Sonic Colours more than Xenoblade, but I'm a few hours in, exploring some ruins and, while it's good fun, I'm not seeing why it's getting hyped as the most amazing RPG in years.

The story hasn't really kicked in yet, so I assume that gets better? And the battle system gets more interesting as I unlock more customisation options, right?
