What's the strangest anime you've seen? Even if you've only seen a few episodes?

Interesting question! Now, to me, Bobobobo doesn't even register on the radar for strangest. It's random zany comedy, yes, but there's so many shows like that. Is it really much stranger than your average random comedy like Excel Saga, etc?
Now, really really strange anime, that's something that you're like "what did I just watch", or something so bizarre you can't believe it.
Paprika is a very surreal and crazy one, but its so well done even that doesn't come to mind as the strangest.
M.D. Geist is pretty weird.
You know what, when in doubt, go with Wicked City.

For stuff like Cromaratie, that'd be like saying an Adult Swin cartoon is the weirdest thing ever. I mean, it's pretty random, but it makes sense, it's a narrative set in a high school of zany characters. Anime can be a lot more befuddlingly crazy than that. Paranoia Agent is fairly weird. And Perfect Blue, etc.
We've barely scratched the surface here folks.

I remember seeing an anime about a guy who has to drink breast milk to gain power or something.
it has 2 seasons. Qwaser or something to that spelling. this is actually relatively recent too. but not that crazy. and not as funny as an anime where your power comes from the size of your breasts (and this is an explicit plot point made during the 1st episode).
still, nothing will top Kaiba in this category. looks like a 4 year old drew it, story is like a 40 year old wrote it. music perfectly fits it and it's extremely serious and heavy on the plot. half of it doesn't even make sense until you get to process what went down exactly due to the weird art style and setting. and i have never even HEARD of an all out dystopian setting in an anime.

yeah, in all honesty the amount of perverted stuff has grown so much in general, not just anime, that it's hard to find something in that genre that's stranger than the really, really unique stuff.
(seriously everyone should watch Kaiba. it's not a show for everyone because of how different it is in art, story, direction, setting, and plot, but it's a show everyone should legitimately try for a couple episodes.)

I have no idea what it was called, but one time my dad was flipping through channels and we found this weird anime movie about this girl who went into people's dreams or something. I think it was like multiple people dreaming in the same world, like there was this one guy who turned into a mecha and he was fighting this giant baby, except it was like immune to all his attacks. And then there was this other guy who was giant and made of darkness, but then he gets like sucked up/eaten by the baby, who slowly grows and matures into a woman during the process and as a result the dream reality they were in is saved or destroyed or something. It was years ago that I saw it, but I think it would've made more sense if I had seen the whole thing.
well, it's fluid. i'll give it that. but goddamn when you see the 'guns' in kaiba and what they shoot or hell even what they do, it's... so weird. which matches the rest of the show. if you care for plot at all, definitely go for it.
setting takes place in a far future where the universe is at peace and whatnot. mankind's outgrown the use for bodies and can store everything on chips. bodies thus became expendable. there's a universe populated by humans in all kinds of bodies. you get to see the way this affects society in all kinds of ways. sure life is good because how can you really die? hunger? population control? high levels of technology and the normal body limits don't exist anymore. it goes really nice into everything there.
and this is the art style for that.

To be fair, that's kinda how anime and manga started out, stuff by Osamu Tezuka etc which looked very cartoony and Disney-ish, but were often pretty dark and bizarre with adult themes.

in that case, yes. you just matched the mix pretty spot on there. but it's definitely incredibly unique. really was... what year was that, 2008? 9? one of those, but it was easily the gem of the year.

I came in here to say Abenobashi. But it's mostly in a more "zany" sort of way that a lot of anime do, the only edge I'd give Abenobashi over others in that style is the very marked twist in emotional direction towards the end, but it's still not that over the top.
At the end of the day, Galaxy Express 999 was pretty weird too, or at least it was to me.
I guess Perfect Blue might be more genuinely strange. I haven't really seen much of the more art house type stuff though.
BLAME! is a pretty strange manga too but that might be more just me not knowing what the hell is going on because nobody ever says a damn thing.
Hmmm....if I had to pick one, that wasn't going OUT OF IT'S WAY to be strange (thus eliminating any Gainax options), I'd say maybe...Boogiepop Phantom? At least the first time I watched it years ago. Bought the series dirt cheap recently, probably gonna go through it again sometime soon.
