It's not an issue of being anti electronica or anti dance music. Dubstep just seems uniquely awful.
Good, ol' Bokonon has taken to 'trolling' via dubstep. (someday maybe you'll understand the bro hotdogsmanship in our communiques, but that is not this topic. (Unless we lose focus, the point is trolling isn't the right word, it's more like trying to introduce dubstep as a running gag)).
I just... I don't even get it. Why do people do this? Is it an elaborate gag like "Look how ****ty i can make this thing' "Ha! Look at my even ****tier thing i made!" "Ha ha ha! We're so post-ironic awful?" Because... okay, I can get behind post-ironic awfulness, I quite enjoy a good post-ironic awful.
Dubstep when not a remix (is that possible?) appears to be characterized by atonal, amelodic, repetitive clips, distorted to the point that the original musicality and content are missing. (I would liken it perhaps to Rap performed by a robot, put directly into 4/4 time, and the robot can no longer say words, so it just makes awful sounds).
Then you have the dubstep remix, which really does just seem to be the art of ruining another piece of music.
I'm fairly well musically versed, can someone in some way alter my understanding of dubstep, or is it really just..

But in all seriousness. I listen to dubstep a bit, enough to know that the biggest problem with dubstep is that all of it is almost indistinguishable. Once a dubstep song does that deep bass drop part which seems to define dubstep, it sounds almost identical to every other deep bass drop thing part dubstep songs do. The only way I ever can tell a song from another is the few seconds of original beats they have before going back to the generic over used bass drop which doesn't ever flow worth beans in the slightest.
Thanks Shadow. It was a weak first try, but I wanted to crank it out as quickly as possible after Seaworthy gave me the original sunset image. Someday I aspire to create stuff approaching as legendary as SBAHJ. He uses way more tools than I did though. It's a project for another day.

I don't get how people say this. I mean Skrillex's productionz span a few genres... Dubstep, electro, glitch, progressive house.. Are you saying that none of his tracks are dubstep, or that he's just not a dubstep artist?
I find dubstep to be, on the whole, very un enjoyable. Even when there are elements of the song that I like, there is almost always at least one element of the song that is either just super boring/genuinely painful to listen to/or just completely out of whack with the feel of the rest of the song. And I know it is just a genre thing because whenever people like the aforementioned skrillex make a song that lacks dubstep elements I tend to like it.

I've gotten to despise dubstep. I just don't get the musical value in the same distorted, massively repetitive WOMP WOMP WOMP bass drops being thrown into every single song, nor the fun in dancing to that. But the real reason I end up despising it is that half the dubstep I hear fakes me out by pretending to just be some generically unoffensive (and often even enjoyable) techno/house music before dropping the womps on me.

the argument is less about skrillex (who doesn't make dubstep. dubstep is barely a thing anymore, just a term used to describe inter-related scenes in various cities) and more about this guy's utter lack of knowledge about what dubstep is, or was.
Dubstep is like Electronic music for metalcore and scene people
is about as far removed Burial, or Hyperdub, or Pearson Sound, or the Bristol scene as you could possibly get. and then the song he cited is house, trance, and a bit of breakcore!

I don't care if the general music public misappropriates the term, just as I don't care if the general music public enjoys Skrillex. but specific people who continually display their ignorance on a subject despite learning otherwise annoy me.

Why is it that people always have to either really like dubstep or really hate dubstep and overgeneralize, and no one can be in between?
Whenever I heard music I thought was dubstep I always was like "this is OK, I guess." But then I found out stuff like Skrillex is actually brostep, and I never felt like educating myself on the distinction between brostep and dubstep, so yeah. Still don't know what my opinion on dubstep is.
