Of course, I realize that many of them are in that situation because of their own poor decisions, but I still wish I could do more for them besides give a few coins and volunteer at the local soup kitchen.

Some of them. There are different ones that appear around the campus 2-3 times a week.

The one guy actually has decent clothing, looks healthy, and can't be over 30, so personally I think he should be trying to get a job instead of getting college kids to buy him Jimmy Johns.

And then another guy yelled at me one time because I had my earbuds in and wasn't paying attention to him. Then the next day around 11:00 AM I saw him getting written up for being intoxicated in public and the officer was taking his fifth he had bought. I'm not handing anyone money if it's going to go directly to booze or cigarettes.
