Put 117 hours into it, but now I'm taking a break for a couple months whilst some neat mods form behind my back.

Conjuration seemed kinda bad to me when I got that summon Dremora staff really early in the game. Might have to give it a try on my fourth playthrough when I (probably) go pure mage.

Have put way too much time into the game, so far. First character was a Bow using Wood Elf thief, second character was a warrior/mage Imperial (Focused mainly on Destruction, Illusion, One-Handed, and light armor), third character is an Orc Paladin (Two handed, Heavy armor, and Restoration.)

I wonder the same thing about anyone who's put a decent amount of time into Morrowind and actually considers Oblivion or Skyrim to be better.

I used to be in the same boat as you about Morrowind being better than the last two games. But, now I that I've put more hours in to both Oblivion and Skyrim, I have to say that they both deliver a better experience as a whole. You thought I was going to use that line, didn't you?

Anyway, I still disagree with some of the mechanics and production values of the last two games. Getting rid of more of the skill tree, cutting equipment slots, having more questionable writing and artificial barriers to getting good stuff, and so on felt like watering down the system for a long time. But, even though it is watering down the system to do that, I think it needed to be simplified. Not that I thought the system was hard to understand in the first place or that it wasn't there to help the player build a character he or she wanted, but because it didn't really work that well and the game didn't need to be structured that way.

Also, I never really griped about the level scaling in Oblivion because the characters I built still had distinct advantages over enemies at higher levels.

I don't actually care about any of the stuff you mentioned. Well besides the writing and artificial barriers but I think those are cared about universally even the people who think Skyrim and Oblivion are better should recognize that those two things are problems. I don't care about simplification of the skill system, or the removal of attributes or anything like that. As far as I'm concerned that stuff was too complicated for it's own good and as long as it was that complicated something was like to be extremely broken (though it's hilarious that even with the extreme simplification they still can't balance it at all).

I care about the feeling of reward Morrowind gave me that is simply absent in Oblivion and Skyrim. In Oblivion the level scaling makes it so the optimal way to find the best gear in the game is to run the same dungeon over and over while waiting 3 days inbetween. In Skyrim it is just grinding the crafting skills to 100. You can get the best gear in the game without ever leaving the first city. I don't even really care about the "best" gear all that much either I collect every piece of unique gear in these games anyways and that is where Skyrim and Oblivion fall short the most. I'd be shocked if totaled up the unique gear in Oblivion and Skyrim combined is even half the unique gear in Morrowind. In Skyrim and Oblivion there is no point in ever exploring a dungeon that a either a quest or a misc tip doesn't lead you too. In Morrowind some of the absolute best gear in the game is found in places that no NPC or quest will ever send you.

Another thing that is extremely lame is the amazing lack of content. This isn't as much of an issue in Oblivion (that is ruined by other things) but in Skyrim it is terrible. Skyrim = ~90 hours and I'm done with every guild, main quest, and all daedric quests while also doing a fair amount of other quests and just random exploring/misc objectives. I never thought I'd do everything in a TES game that quick.

In Morrowind I have over 500 hours and I've only done like half the factions + vanilla and Tribunal main quests. Still never really done anything in Bloodmoon or a good amount of the factions.

Enchanting is great! I now have on my armors

Magicka Regen 139% faster
Potions 44% better
Destruction costs 68% less
Carry capacity +66
Pickpocket success 72% better

I still need to get the final enchantment power increase perk.

The only thing in there that wasn't a nitpick to me was the lack of content, which is a bit of a farce. There's plenty of content in Skyrim, it's just not in the factions this time. As a result, the other missions and even the dungeons in general had more variety and work put into them. I'll admit that I haven't gone to the dungeons that Skyrim didn't point me to, but there are so many that it did send me to that had npcs with something for you to do in the dungeons. And it wouldn't surprise me if the other dungeons didn't have their own exposition in them. Even Oblivion had some of those. The difference here is that Skyrim tries to direct the player to the good stuff.

The only real reason you would say that there's no point to going to those dungeons is if you were only in it for the loot; that makes me think you don't like the actual game that much anyway. You could also find the daedric dai katana in Morrowind by cheating, which is basically what your doing when you wait for dungeons to restock. In Oblivion and Skyrim, there just happens to be more than one of those generic named items. And not being able to get the best loot in the first town would be an artificial barrier. The daedric quests have always been the unique set pieces in the series, and it's not much different now, If you want unique equipment, most rpgs aren't for you. But, I would recommend From Software for that, since even their older titles do that fairly well. You could also wait for the modding community to get started.

Also, the guild quests in Morrowind sucked hard. But, being able to kill the arch mage early was a nice touch. The point being that more isn't always better. I'll also admit that Skyrim probably doesn't have more than 150, but the only reason why more was possible in the past was because the tech was crap. Again, if you wan't more, the modding community and DLC is coming. But, you'll probably just start playing Arena.

Anyway, sorry about the wall of text, I'm just done defending Morrowind and agreeing with it's fan base.

The content is not there this time. Like I said 90 hours = I'm done with all factions + main quest + all daedric quests + tons of misc quests/objectives and even some non quest dungeons every now and then.

There's no point in going to those dungeons because they are just generic. They might have a cool design but unless you care about prettiness there is no reason to enjoy random exploring. Most do not have unique NPCs or anything like that unless a quest sends you there.

What are you talking about with the daedric dai katana? Yeah you could find it early that is nothing like waiting for dungeons to restock though. Waiting for dungeons to restock is the optimal way to get the best gear in Oblivion. I did that in Morrowind too for the Daedric Tower Shield but besides that there was no other reason to do it. The gear was hand placed not randomly generated in Morrowind.

Lol at not being able to get the best gear in the first town being an artificial barrier. That is just bad game deisgn. Artificial barriers are when you get a terrible version of a weapon just because you complete a quest line when you are a low level. Like with Chillrend in Skyrim you have to be level 46 to get the best version. Thankfully I played on the PC version and just gave myself the best version since who the heck is going to get to 46 before doing the thieves guild? I had already finished both the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves guild and a ton of other content without even going past mid 30s.

Guild quests weren't bad in Morrowind they were certainly much better than Skyrims herp derp 5 quests now you should be our master! Even the fetch quests and the like in Morrowind weren't that bad since the world was actually fun to explore and even the most mundane of tasks was given a back story that made it at least slightly interesting.
