Not asking for 1st party because I'm already aware of those! Though 3rd party I pretty much know nothing about except for the games that released pretty much at the same time as the console.

1) Ghost Recon. it can frequently be found for $15, and is a pretty great game. it's an easy game to pick first because it's long and cheap. 2) Devil Survivor when you can get it for $30. amazon's reprinting regularly. 3) Cave Story 3DS. a pretty great remake. 4) Ace Combat. currently a contender for the best game on the system.
if you like the Dead or Alive series, it also has the best DOA game in the series.
those are the ones that immediately come to mind.

ghost recon isn't an rts. <_<; it's if you like turn-based strategy games or SRPGs. there's nothing real time about it.
first third party must have i'd say definitely is ace combat though. ghost recon's price point just makes it a really easy one to spot. cave story 3ds is legit great too, but it's not as good. overclocked if you have the original probaly isn't worth it at 40, or even 30 unless your'e a fan. but ace combat? hell yeah.

Ghost Recon's gameplay is great but I can't stand the aesthetics
Maybe if the game had awesome music, didn't look so bland and had a story I could give a damn about, I would actually finish it instead of playing Overclocked again
not liking DOA is totally sensible to me! never was a good fighting game series, but some people really like it.
still, ace combat can't get enough praise. it's sky crawlers' system, not assault horizon despite the name. it has nothing in common with AH and plays like a regular ace combat game if you want it to, or you can use the system in it to help speed things up.

yes to both of those. Assault Horizon Legacy's the title, but it plays nothing like AH thankfully. the "Legacy" in there i guess means that it plays like everyone has always played it, but it's got one mechanic that differs from the other main games that's straight lifted from the Wii game Sky Crawlers (Ace Combat dev team basically made an Ace Combat clone for the Wii) where you can, if you time it right, avoid missiles without having to loop in circles but just hit the direction you're told to move + R. alternatively, if you track an enemy you'll have a gauge fill up as you can then get behind them, though it's not a guarantee that you'll get a kill shot on 'em. it basically speeds up one annoying practice for the former and speeds up the game in general for the latter, with neither being that abusable or spammable in later missions or higher difficulties.
that mechanic makes it a very easy entry point to the series while also satisfying vets of it. the 3D looks pretty nice for it too overall, made the game more fun. the story's lackluster, but it's a complete remake of Ace Combat 2. kinda was expected that it wasn't going to carry something at the level of 5, 0, or 6. closest would be 4 in that regards.
