it has become increasingly clear to me that no mainstream Republican or Democrat can be trusted to defend civil liberties on even a basic level, and Obama is no different. The party split is meaningless because both parties will erode your civil liberties, engage in corporate welfare, and take military action that costs us billions of dollars and causes even more destruction in the countries we attack.
I realize RP has a lot of problems. I've posted about some of them in discussions with SmartMuffin here. But the cost of having any mainstream candidate become president is too high. It's still a while before we all vote but for the first time Ron Paul is in the lead for getting my vote for US president. He's the only guy I trust not to attack civil liberties or engage in warfare for no reason.
I agree 100% with you, and this is actually what I have been thinking recently as well. Not going to get my hopes up though. Been burned too many times by politicians.

Yeah, when Obama, the guy who vowed to end the patriot act, goes and extends it, and the Republicans are the ones who put it in in the first place, I really can't blame people who say "screw all establishment candidates".

DeathChicken posted... Too bad he won't win the nomination, because the media has already chosen Romney
It's not so much that the media picked Romney. They've been strongly anti-Paul. Several non-Romney candidates spent time as a frontrunner, though.

smitelf posted... Sure, but after Ron Paul is defeated in the primaries, will you vote for Romney or Obama?
Are you implying that getting Romney the nomination is all a pro-Obama conspiracy? o_O

Yes, I suppose there is the third option of a Spiderman/Ron Paul write-in vote, for those people with too much time on their hands to stay home on election day.
