Argh.

motherboard has a random blinking green light, nothing else will move or show any signs of life. I am mildly confused.

So, does it power on? Are you getting to the BIOS screen?

my roommate suggested you could try different RAM. Other than that, the motherboard may be gone.

Out of my own curiosity, is the light labeled, and what motherboard do you have?

its the main power light thingy that is supposed to be perma-green anytime the motherboard has power. For whatever reason, they decided to stick it under the SATA ports, which actually makes it hard to see sometimes. I didnt even notice it was blinking til I moved the case a bit.

took PC outside, applied canned air liberally, checked connections and connectors and all that stuff for anything that looked abnormal or unplugged. Everything appeared in order. Brought back PC to room, blinking green light persists.

Power supply, possibly? I remember you saying that your computer has gotten blackouts and power surges in the past. It is more likely the motherboard if the light is blinking in a predictable way (say, light on for 1 second, off 1 second, repeating rather than on for half a second, off 2 seconds, on 1.5 seconds, etc.).

light is on-off-on-off-on-off in a very brief but consistent manner(I dont think I could call it a second, it blinks on a bit faster than a second).
