News flash...Taliban soldiers are the enemy and are trying to KILL OUR soldiers. In this case they lost. War is not pretty or civil. It is horrible. You cant expect to turn men into soldiers and then criticize them for having a lack of compassion for their enemy. GROW UP AMERICA ..you can't have it both ways... if you want to stop this type of thing from happening.. don't go to war.

This is currently the "most liked" comment on the USA Today source. Really America? So it's fine to expect no honor from soldiers? These are not (supposed) to be random high school graduates with no real goals, these are Marines. There should be a higher standard in this case surely.

I think what these people defending the Marines are forgetting is that it's not really hard to not urinate on a corpse. Your standard reaction to corpses is to not pee on them. It's not really doing you any benefit to be urinating on them, either. It's not a matter of compassion; if you're peeing on a corpse, you're going out of your way to be a dick.

I wouldn't defend them, but come on, they're literally professional murderers. it should never surprise anyone when soldiers do things that are against social dogma, they kind of make their living killing people and all.

What Liquid Wind is true, its unfair to expect rational, civilised behaviour from mercenaries with the brain and moral compass of a peanut. My real issue is in the comments and the number of people who would happily defend it.

What do I care? The corpses are dead. Yeah, bad PR for 'em in the face of the Afghanis, but ask yourself the same question: Why do you care? If you don't, then you get the idea- it doesn't matter.

I care because I'm human, and I think other civilized human beings care as well. Events such as this cause people to dislike and judge the country as a whole.

I'm guessing those of you who have no personal issue with this simply already have very low opinions of soldiers as it is. Maybe I'm idealistic, but my idea of a soldier is an actual hero who fights for something he believes in to preserve ideals important to them. Granted, I realize that is not the way a military works; you do what your commanding officers tell you and them likewise. I don't imagine those orders included defiling corpses. Certainly expecting dignity and common decency out of these people isn't out of the realm of sensibility.
