You can carry as much crap as you want. Literally unlimited. But you can only actually equip so much stuff. Depending on how much equipment you are actually wearing, you move/roll faster or slower. It's a really good balance between mobility and defense that can be switched on the fly, and overall the system basically adds a layer of strategy and planning to the gameplay, without being annoying or cumbersome.

Also I think weight limits or otherwise limited inventories are great for survival type games like Resident Evil and STALKER. In those games, a large part of the game is finding stuff and deciding what to keep and what to throw away.

I have no problem with weight systems really or inventory management as long they are more than an annoying limitation and actually add even a small amount of strategy.

Also Dark Souls is not really a weight system, that's more like a physics system or something.

It's definitely a weight system. I'm pretty "weight" is one of the stat parameters.
