Rules: There may be spoilers for all seven books and 8 movies Each match will last for exactly 24 hours. Any votes after that point will not count. Discussion is encouraged but not required. Make sure all of your votes are obvious. I should know who you are voting for, basically don't bury your vote in the middle of a paragraph. No alt-voting. Ties will be replayed the next day with the rest of the matches. No vote-saves or rallying for specific characters. Telling people to vote is encouraged but don't tell them how to vote! Don't complain about the seeds, they were the result of a save-my. Because matches can overlap, results will be in this topic. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/61327435
(3)Draco Malfoy Two snakes. But Draco is more than just Voldemort's pet. Draco is probably the most mean spirited character in the books. He's a bully, and not in the James Potter type of way either. I don't think he makes a good rival for Harry. He's pretty bad at Quidditch, and had to buy his way on to the team. But he does get a incey bit of redemption in the end. Enough to be better than a pet snake slash horcrux.
(2)Fleur Delacour Fleur is one of my favorite characters. She's a bit snobby, but her moments with Bill are really nice. It's great to see her stick with Bill even after his werewolf attack. She's a bit stronger in the seventh book, than she is in the fourth. I like how she's almost motherly towards the trio when they come to shell cottage. She takes care of them. Worries about them. Helena has a decent backstory, but really doesn't stand out aside from that. Even in the sixth book, Fleur shows how kind she can be. And she manages to get Molly to accept her. She also is one of the seven Harry's flying through the night sky, and you know it has to take courage to pose as Harry Potter -- after all the ones that do except Mundungus Fletcher are Gryffindor's. And let's face it Dung wouldn't have done it if Mad Eye hadn't forced him.
Ugh... I'm really looking forward to the day when Draco goes up against a character strong enough for me to vote against him without feeling silly, because I can't say I like the guy. He starts off well enough, an obvious rival from the jump, but with a twist! He starts out as wanting to be Harry's friend... Draco was the kind of boy who knew to make powerful connections. He was wise, much like his father. Thing is I really don't like the direction Rowling took him in at all. It's one thing to shift the antagonistic focus from Draco to Voldemort in a way that still makes the former seem somewhat of a threat, minor though it may be.
However, Rowling practically emasculates the boy. His characterization goes all over the place, as do his actions. I believe he goes from breaking Harry's nose by stomping on his face to crying in a girl's restroom over the course of one book. Or maybe it was the boy's restroom, but the point is there's quite a difference between his high and low points, and it makes him seem very inconsistent. I get that this is exactly the point- to make him feel like less of a villain and more of a neutral struggling along his own path- but that doesn't mean I have to like it. And I do not. Give me badass Draco with his entourage of big brutes over morally indecisive Draco any day. Still, I can't antivote him with a lineless snake. Zero qualms about the other match though.
(7)Helena Ravenclaw (2)Fleur Delacour
Or NotFleur, who never made it past "ze Grindelows". Fleur starts off fairly cool- a kind of dangerously beautiful girl who qualifies for Tri-Wizard championship... and then comes in last or next to last in every challenge. Oi... Was this really the best Beaubatons had to offer? I realize every female character can't be as wise as Hermione, as talented as Tonks, or as charming as Luna is, but it's like Rowling intentionally set out to make a female have zero likeable qualities. And my favorite Weasley, Bill ends up marrying her? Gah, que veut-il voir dans cette fille? Qu'est-ce? Qu'est-ce? Anyway, she's dangerously beautiful... and uh... marries Bill and... Ah, when Bill is assaulted by Greyback, she defends him by suggesting that she still intends to marry him. Good for you? You're kind of selfish for even bringing up the possibility that you were going to leave the man you supposedly love because he no longer looks pretty. Safe to say you probably liked him for his good looks. (In your defense though, he does look cool. Harry even says so himself).
Anyway cool last beats lame present is the logic behind my vote. I've never actively disliked Helena Ravenclaw or hated her cheesy accent to death. Antivote ahoy!

No, she's not selfish for bringing it up at all -- seeing as it's Molly that brings it up. Molly in fact brings up that he was a handsome boy there. You can tell from the look of terror on Fleur's face that she cares for Bill, and doesn't care how he looks. She only brings it up when Molly has the audacity to suggest that she wouldn't want to marry Bill for that reason.
Oh, apparently you're right. Still the "I'm good enough looking for the both of us" line from the scene comes across as incredibly vain and distasteful on Fleur's part. Bottom line: I just don't like this character at all and it would take a far worse opponent for me to ever vote for her.

I'm not really of the opinion that Nagini has all that much value as a character. The fake Bathilda scene is pretty cool, but that's about it.
Draco, on the other hand, is actually pretty fantastic. He's a grey character, and yet he's kind-of realistic about it--even at the end it's not clear if we're supposed to like him, or still think he's a jerk, just not someone worth killing/imprisoning.
(7)Helena Ravenclaw (2)Fleur Delacour
Helena's one scene is pretty good, but...I mean, she gets jealous, steals something, dies, and gets tricked by Lord Voldemort. It's a pretty simple story, and she just doesn't have enough screen time to do much more.
Fleur spends most of her time as comic relief, like being a ***** to Ron in a dozen different ways across books, because Ron getting owned by women never stops being entertaining. But she has some good serious moments, like chewing out Molly for thinking she won't still like Bill. Honestly, she's not that strong a character either, but still quintuples Helena's screen time (even if Fleur's typical screen time is of lower quality than Helena's).

I've been trying to use the Wizard People, Dear Reader names when I can remember to use them, but I keep the seeding numbers to make my vote more clear.
