Alright so, we don't have unlimited Internet in the apartment and this month we've downloaded a tad more and passed our monthly limit (140GB), now it's alright, I've stopped downloading since I don't want to pay a ****ton of money, I mean every Gigabyte past the limit is charged individually so it can make the bill extremely high. But not my roommate, he decided that if we were to pass the limit that we'd pass it by a ****ton, and he expects me to pay for it because I contributed.
Should I tell him to **** off and pay the 100+$ bill himself? Because while I contributed to passing the limit I still stopped downloading after we passed it (I pretty much only browse the net now) so I shouldn't have to pay for the bonus fee.
That's a bad attitude for him to have. I probably have a similar internet plan, because iirc you live in Quebec? Anyway it only makes sense to download binge when you've already downloaded past the penalty cap. To do so from just going over the limit is the worst possible thing. If he's aware of this and keeps going, make it clear he's paying that tax. It'll probably lead to strife, but he sounds like a bad person anyway. The point is Canadian Internet is the worst thing

Figure out your half of what you would have had to pay if you both stopped using up bandwidth at the point you told him stopped, and then pay that.
Even if you contributed less to get to that point, I assume the implied mutual agreement before that point was to split any bill regardless. After you brought cutting back on bandwidth and he wouldn't, that was clearly no longer the mutual agreement.

Also, if your name's not on the rent or the bills, then it is his credit rating in jeopardy. In addition, if you had no explicit agreement between just the two of you, I don't think he'll have legal grounds to do anything about you defaulting.

In my house of 5 people, we get close to the comcast 250GB "limit" pretty often. Especially when people download movies/tv series/games. But we don't get charged if we go over the limit because that's dumb as hell.
