Kind of depends on the fedora. Those weird plaid/leather fedoras pretty much always look tacky. Conversely, there's some fedoras that look okay without getting all dressed up, as long as you're putting in more effort than just t-shirt + jeans.

You need a certain sort of face shape and look to pull of fedoras. Mostly just the look, but it doesn't require a suit. It does go better with nicer clothes, however, like a button down or dress shirt for example.

A nice Red Sox fitted cap is always good. Plain works too but not as good. Also, fitted >>> snapbacks

Beanies are nice too, including the ones with the brims in them.

A decent long coat or a reasonably nice jacket or even (possibly) a button up shirt of some kind.

I wasn't thinking of a particular kind of fedora, really, since it varies a bit from person to person.

I was just thinking that I'm not the kind of person who could pull off the short-brimmed, curled-in-the-back kind of fedora.
But actually have a long coat that might go well with one of the older styled fedoras. Plus, I might actually have the right build for one.
