People saying $50 a day is too small are being a bit greedy. That's $18,250/year. Most people on this board are in their late teens or early 20s, so even if you die fairly young, let's say in 40 years, you'd get $730,000 for doing one thing once, and I'm sure you could find some really great melee weapon that could put you at minimal risk

Considering the "work" that I do, an extra $50 a day would, like, double the money I make on most days. Yeah, I'd fight the lion. The question is what I could even use that I'd be able to defeat one with.Something with some distance on it, because even if I use a light saber, the lion still might maul me before I manage to slash/impale it, especially if it lunges. I'm thinking some kind of bladed spear, like a glaive.

This would be a delightful bonus to whatever job I have in the future. Tossing this $50 a day onto investments could really help if take off over time. Either that or just have 18k spending cash a year, which is of course nice.

Yeah, I would probably fight the lion. I would need to do research on what type of weapon to use and how to properly wield it though. So if I had to fight the lion in like, a few hours, I would have to rethink this.

But then you have to worry about what you do if the lion gets inside your reach. If the lion lunges past the blade of your glaive, you have nothing to attack with.

$18k a year is easy to live off of. I can live off like half that, still have enough to buy frivolous stuff and keep myself well fed/clothed/bathed/etc. Unless you're swimming in debts or leases you should be able to do this without even having a roommate. And it's not like you can't also have a job on top of this.

That being said unless I could use like a lightsaber or some other cheap instakill weapon it's not enough to be worth the risk. I'd even have some reservations about killing the lion on principle, honestly.

For example, if you work for 40 years at an average of $50k/year, that's $2 million right there. Considering in 40 years $50k/year would be the equivalent of $15k/yr now, I expect most of us here will be making much more than $50k/yr in 40 years. Especially if we get economic growth like we have the past 200 years.

Factoring in inflation and economic growth, median lifetime expected income on this board is probably close to $10 million. Of course the revenue stream from income from work is heavily backloaded, while the lion income is not. That means the lion income is worth more than this comparison suggests, because you can invest it earlier and longer. But this board's median lifetime expected earnings is probably still several times the lion-fighting money.

Sorry guys, the odds are slim that even internet superheroes such as we wouldn't be able to melee kill a lion, especially if it's actually out to maul us. If a lion is charging and determined to eat my face, and I've got my tree cutter ready to go all Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the odds are not in my favor. Like really really not in my favor.

Tax free? Because now you're looking at making 24k-ish. And that's pretty cushy. Melee weapons aren't very effective versus things that are faster than you and outmass you by several hundred pounds. I think I'd want a kukri though, those things mean business.
