And here I thought MWC would be the only person who would think these two things are comparable offenses.

In both of them you are effecting the outcome of the games.

Spygate. IIRC Rose only bet on his team (or so he says) and if that's the case it really doesn't affect much. The second he places a bet on anyone else, activate the competitive ethics s***storm fan though.

Spygate was just out and out cheating.

Betting on your own team if you're a player is one thing. Bad, but whatever.

Betting on your own team when you're a manager is a whole new can of worms. There are plenty of things to bet on besides winning and losing, you know. It just flat out screwed with the integrity of the game.

I don't fully know the details of Pete Rose and gambling if he was gambling on winners or how much a team would win by?

Just like I don't know how much the Patriots used the info from spygate to direct their team.

All I know is that Bill Belichick should have been fired.

It's Spygate, adn it is not close (at least if what we know about Rose is true).

Rose never bet AGAINST his team, so he never actually affected the outcome of a game.

For 6 years a team that was not good enough to do **** by themselves was given advantages to get wins they did not earn. And still has not done anything since that time.

that's dumb MWC. That very season damn near went perfect. But knowing you, you'll be like 18-1*. Guess what, they were "exposed" the first game. So they went that entire season without taping. They've made the playoffs every year since, except one (which in a normal season they would have gone, but AFC East was insane that year).

And spygate HONESTLY wasn't that big a deal. Belichick was doing something pretty much every coach did and it wasn't even that bad. If you notice, Mangini was forced out of the league immediately afterwards.

I don't know why I still have to justify the patriots to you. At least when our star quarterback gets a season ending injury, we still manage to go 11-5, not 2-14.

And has been said before, there is more to sports betting than just betting on W and Ls. As a manager, there a lot of ways he could manipulate the game to get it into a fortunate situation for his bet.

18-1* *****

Anyway, They had a nice year that year, but that was only because of a pissed off Randy Moss, no one else on that team mattered. Notice how, agin, they have not done **** since then. Even this year, they beat ONE team all year with a 500+ record, and that win was absolute BS where a TD was not given to the other team.

Also NO other coach does it, and the NFL sure as hell thought it was a big deal, it is the biggest penalty ever leveled on any team in the league (not near enough though, should have been forfeiture of the Jets game, Bellicheat kicked out of the league, and no draft picks whatsoever on day 1, (so first 3 rounds back then) even if they tried to trade players to get them).

Hard to say. It really depends what Pete Rose was betting on, and we don't know everything about that. If he was just betting on his team to win, or that his team would score at least a certain number of runs, I don't really have a problem with that at all because he wouldn't have done anything different. If he was betting against his team, or even on certain players on his team to do certain things, that's much worse.

Spygate on the other hand is just out and out cheating. Belichick should have been fired for it, and it's really a black eye on the integrity of the Patriots organization that they didn't. By keeping him anyway they gave tacit approval for what he did, and send the message that they are fine with straight up cheating. It'd be like if the league hadn't banned Pete Rose, and then Cincinnati just kept him and acted like nothing was wrong.

If Pete Rose told the truth, spygate was undoubtedly worse. Even if he tampered with scores if he was betting on his team to win he still did everything he could to make that happen. For most practical purposes a W is a W and how you get that W doesn't matter. Frankly, he'd have to be getting into some weird bets if he did anything that caused his team to play less than their very best. I'd expect him to just bet for his team to beat the spread, which means scoring as much as possible is the optimal outcome for the team either way.

I'd rather not have my favorite teams manager overworking a pitcher in a win because he needs to make sure his team beats the spread.
