Abra being pretty useless (barring TM usage) is actually a pretty good reason.

Abra is pretty useful from a competitive standpoint. You can buy it at the Game Corner and soft reset from the desired Nature + Synchronize which will aide in building a team with specific Nature Pokemon.

Plus, it's pretty cute.
